Fabrizio Romano: Chelsea can agree Xavi Simons signing TODAY
Chelsea will hold talks with RB Leipzig for Xavi Simons on Tuesday, according to Fabrizio Romano.
On Monday afternoon, it was revealed that the Blues had engaged in discussions with the Dutchman's camp to study the feasibility of a potential transfer this summer.
Simons is determined to leave RB Leipzig after they failed to qualify for European football, and he has been fielding interest from Arsenal and the Blues.
Already on Monday, it became clear that Stamford Bridge is a more likely destination for the versatile attacker, and Chelsea are now set to formalise their interest in Simons.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea will hold talks with RB Leipzig today, Tuesday, to discuss a potential deal for the 22-year-old after he showed himself willing to make the move to West London.
Simons deal will hinge on exits
Despite Chelsea having just sold Noni Madueke to Arsenal for €60 million, Romano states that a move for Simons will likely hinge on further outgoings.
Leipzig are no longer insisting on their initial €80m asking price, with German media even suggesting that €50m-€60m could now be enough to sign the Netherlands international. The Bundesliga side paid €50m plus €30m in bonuses for him in January, but not all add-ons have been triggered.
Still, Chelsea will have to offload more players first, with Nicolas Jackson one of the most valuable names who could potentially depart before the end of the window.
The same applies to Arsenal, too, with the Gunners also having to make sales before they can actually move for Simons. At present, their clear priority is finally getting the signing of Viktor Gyokeres over the line.
