Arsenal agree Viktor Gyokeres transfer
Arsenal are on the verge of signing Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres, according to a bombshell report from David Ornstein.
Mikel Arteta’s side have been locked in negotiations with Sporting for several weeks and they have finally reached a complete breakthrough in talks.
That is according to The Athletic’s Ornstein, who claims that Arsenal are now adding the “finishing touches” to the transfer, with Gyokeres expected to complete his move to north London imminently.
The Sweden international will join the Gunners for an initial fee of €63.5 million, with a further €10m in add-ons, having signed a five-year contract at the club.
Gyokeres' agent has waived his commission fee in order to help his client secure a move to Arsenal, while the ex-Coventry City striker has forfeited €2m in wages in order to force through a transfer to the Emirates Stadium.
Transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano has also confirmed Gyokeres' transfer to Arsenal with his famous 'here we go' catchphrase.
Gyokeres scored 97 goals in 102 appearances for Sporting CP and he will become the club’s all-time record sale if add-on clauses are met.
Viktor Gyokeres to join Arsenal
Although Arsenal had agreed a €73.5m deal in principle with Sporting last week, the two clubs were locked in talks over the structure of the add-on payments.
As revealed by The Transfers Podcast, Sporting were asking for €2.5m if Gyokeres plays 20 games for Arsenal next season, €2.5m if he reaches 40 appearances, €2.5m if the Gunners achieve Champions League qualification and a further €2.5m if he plays 20 times during the 2026-27 season.
Arsenal, on the other hand, were eager to make at least one of those add-on clauses far more difficult to reach.
However, a breakthrough has been reached and Gyokeres is now on the verge of joining Arsenal.
