Viktor Gyokeres is said to be fuming as Sporting CP are trying to renege on their agreement to let the Manchester United target leave for €70 million this summer.

The Swedish striker has been making headlines ever since he turned up in Lisbon in 2023. His absurd scoring record for Sporting CP has made him one of Europe's most in-demand commodities, and it is expected that he will leave Portugal this summer.

Arsenal explored a potential move for the 27-year-old but ultimately elected to pursue Benjamin Sesko instead, with talks currently taking place to reach an agreement for the Slovenian striker.

This has given Man Utd an opportunity to try and court Gyokeres, who was previously determined to only join a Champions League club this summer. The Red Devils approached his representatives for talks earlier this week.

According to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, Man Utd have been calling Gyokeres' agents 'on a daily basis' in recent times, although it remains unclear if a deal is financially feasible for the cash-strapped Old Trafford club.

Gyokeres furious as Sporting jack up price

Indeed, the latest news coming out of Portugal suggests that signing Gyokeres has just become even more difficult for Man Utd as Sporting CP are trying to jack up their asking price to €80 million.

The Swede has a €100m release clause, but Sporting assured him last year that he would be allowed to leave the club for around €70m this summer. However, the Lisbon giants are now allegedly reneging on this 'gentleman's agreement.'

"[Sporting president Frederico] Varandas and Hugo Viana, then the Lions’ football director, offered Gyokeres an extra bonus of €500,000 gross if the striker recorded 50 goals and assists to motivate him to stay," Record writes.

"After the meeting between the parties last September, Viana sent the player’s representatives audio and written messages with the summary of the meeting, communications that Gyokeres’ agents have in their possession and that, our newspaper has found, they now admit to making public in the media, to prove the commitment that exists and the respective terms – namely the promise to let Gyokeres leave for €60m plus €10m [in add-ons] – in a scenario in which the rupture between the player and the club could escalate.

"Another source close to the process, not only denies the existence of official proposals, but also details that in the aforementioned meeting it was explained to the player that the club would not demand the value of the clause due to his age, but stated that the president did not set a value to release him. This version is disputed by HCM, the agency that represents Gyokeres, and which has messages that prove this."
