Liverpool reject Barcelona approach for Luis Diaz - Ornstein

Liverpool have rejected an approach from Barcelona for Luis Diaz and have insisted that he isn’t for sale this summer.
The Colombia international has two years remaining on his current contract at Anfield and he has been heavily linked with a departure ahead of the 2025-26 campaign amid significant interest from Barcelona and Saudi Arabia.
Hansi Flick’s side view him as a player capable of bolstering their frontline, although Liverpool have now “rebuffed” an approach from the Spanish giants, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein.
Barcelona reportedly contacted Liverpool over a possible summer move for Diaz, however the Reds quickly turned down the opportunity to initiate transfer talks as he is seen as a key part of Arne Slot’s plans for next season.
Diaz scored 17 goals and provided eight assists in 50 appearances for Liverpool last campaign, but he isn’t expected to sign a new deal at Anfield and the club are reportedly even willing to allow him to depart on a free transfer in 2027.
In fact, Ornstein has revealed that Liverpool will only sanction a sale this summer if they receive an offer that would enable them to sign a suitable replacement of “similar or superior quality.”
The 28-year-old joined Liverpool from FC Porto for €54 million in January 2022 and he has racked up 148 first-team appearances during his time at the club.

Who will Liverpool sell this summer?
While Liverpool are insistent that Diaz isn’t for sale, they are hoping to offload Darwin Nunez this summer. The Uruguay international has endured a tough spell at Anfield and Slot’s side are aiming to finalise his departure before the start of the new season.
Meanwhile, Caoimhin Kelleher has already been sold to Brentford for €21.4m, ahead of Giorgi Mamardashvili’s arrival from Valencia, and Jarell Quansah continues to be linked with an exit.
