Arsenal are in the process of finalising the signing of Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, according to David Ornstein.

The Spaniard is coming off a refreshing season on loan with Bournemouth. Although he did make some mistakes, Kepa enjoyed what was, on the whole, a positive campaign.

It was a nice change of pace for a goalkeeper who has struggled to live up to expectations since his world-record €80 million move to Chelsea in 2018. Prior to his loan, the Blues extended his contract by a season so as not to lose him for free this summer.

As part of the deal, Kepa was given a bargain release clause worth just around €6 million, and this has naturally attracted interest after his career renaissance.

Indeed, earlier this week, it emerged that Arsenal have taken a liking to the 30-year-old, and he is even their top target between the sticks now after missing out on Joan Garcia to Barcelona.

On Friday, it was revealed that Arsenal had already held talks with the Spain international and that they were pushing to convince him to make the switch from West to North London.

Now, David Ornstein of The Athletic has announced that Arsenal are closing in on signing the 30-year-old, which seems to suggest that personal terms are on the verge of being agreed. His release clause means that the Gunners won't have to negotiate with Chelsea.

Kepa will arrive in North London as the deputy of starting goalkeeper David Raya. Bournemouth, too, had been keen on signing him permanently, but it seems that he has elected to prioritise the chance of challenging for silverware over a guaranteed starting role.

It would be a surprise to see Kepa supplant Raya, but he will certainly be keen to continue his career revival at the Emirates. Mikel Arteta has repeatedly stated that he wants competition for every position, and the veteran shot-stopper will certainly provide that between the sticks.
