Arsenal Transfer News Today: Romano confirms 'CONCRETE' Sesko talks as Zubimendi doubts emerge

All the latest Arsenal transfer news in one place, including updates on Benjamin Sesko, Martin Zubimendi and Joan Garcia.
Arsenal open Sesko talks – Fabrizio Romano
Arsenal have started ‘moving initial concrete talks’ with RB Leipzig over a transfer for Benjamin Sesko, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Sesko is understood to be among Arsenal’s top targets this summer, with the Gunners set to decide between him or Viktor Gyokeres to be their new number nine.
Having turned down a move to Arsenal last summer, Leipzig are willing to cash in on Sesko after missing out on European football for next season, although reports have suggested they could demand a fee as high as €100m.
But Romano has confirmed that Sesko ‘will leave’ and that Arsenal are ‘on it’ by opening talks with Leipzig ahead of a transfer this summer.
Zubimendi transfer ‘won’t happen in short-term’ claims Sociedad president
Real Sociedad president Jokin Aperribay has insisted that he ‘doesn’t see’ Martin Zubimendi’s future being resolved ‘in the short-term’ amid reports that the midfielder is set to join Arsenal.
Arsenal have long-been suggested to have an agreement in place to sign Zubimendi this summer for his €60 million release clause and, while Aperribay has admitted that clubs have asked about the midfielder, the player allegedly has not asked to leave Sociedad.

"Zubimendi is the only player we've spoken to. Clubs have asked us, but no player has told us they want to leave,” Aperribay said. “We've told Martin to go to the national team calmly, to think about it, and we'd like him to stay. We know there are several options.
“Something may come to fruition or not...I don't see it happening in the short term. We don't see it that way, so we have to wait and see.”
Arsenal to miss out on Arteta favourite
Arsenal are also set to miss out on a long-term transfer target of Mikel Arteta’s in Joan Garcia, who is claimed to be considering a move to either Newcastle or Barcelona.
Garcia was wanted by Arsenal last summer but they were reluctant to pay his release clause, which has since risen to €25m, and the Espanyol goalkeeper has now attracted major interest after a standout season.
According to multiple reports in Spain, Garcia is keen on a move to the Premier League and to Newcastle, where he would likely be a first choice option, however Barca are pushing hard to sign the player from their local rivals with a view to loaning him out for a year.

Manchester United are also holding out hope that they can hijack any move but their interest is likely to be conditional on Andre Onana’s future, which may complicate any prospect of a deal.
Arsenal unlikely to sign Alvarez this summer
Julian Alvarez moving to Arsenal this summer should be considered unrealistic, while Nico Williams will be the club’s likely target out wide, according to an Arsenal expert.
Reports in Spain have claimed Arsenal are pushing hard for Alvarez but Charles Watts told CaughtOffside that such reports are most likely ‘fanciful’.
“First of all Alvarez is very happy in Spain by all accounts, he’s loving it over there and is not exactly pining for a return to the Premier League,” Watts said. “And then there is the money involved. Players like Sesko or Gyokeres would not come cheap, but they would still be significantly cheaper than Alvarez would be, should he move on from Atletico.”
Watts also said Williams was a more feasible option than Anthony Gordon this summer too, saying: “Williams has always been the club’s priority target when it comes to the left side of the attack and if they do make a move to strengthen in that area then I still expect the Athletic Bilbao winger to be the man they go after.”
