Luka Modric to Rangers: Guillem Balague clarifies transfer possibility as Ancelotti rumours grow

Luka Modric has been linked with a sensational move to Rangers when he departs Real Madrid at the end of his contract this summer.
Social media came alive when Guillem Balague suggested that Modric might follow Davide Ancelotti to Rangers as a free agent.
The Gers are in the midst of an ambitious takeover from the 49ers Global Football Group, which is expected to inject significant funds into the club to allow the squad to strengthen significantly. This has fuelled talk of an ambitious summer at the Glasgow club, with a high-profile manager the first piece in the puzzle.
The thinking goes that if Ancelotti could be persuaded to arrive from Real Madrid, could he also attract a figure like Modric?
Balague certainly seemed to hint towards that possibility as he wrote: “Could we see Davide Ancelotti AND Luka Modric heading to Rangers?”

He quickly backtracked, tweeting: “Modric IS NOT GOING TO RANGERS, but you knew that, right?
“The story I told about Modric on BBC Sport is in relation to Davide Ancelotti and Rangers.
“Players he knows have asked him to take them to Rangers. And when Modric was asked about it, he did not say no, or yes, or committed to it. It was a way to explaining the kind of conversations Davide can have, as he has access to players that hugely respect him
“But MODRIC IS NOT GOING TO RANGERS.
“It will not stop people assuming that he is about to sign for Rangers.”
Davide Ancelotti increasingly likely to take Rangers job
Although Modric is not about to sign for Rangers, Davide Ancelotti looks increasingly likely to make his way to Glasgow.
Father Carlo, who has recently taken charge of Brazil, has admitted that there are contract talks with an unnamed club, while the odds on his former right-hand man at Real Madrid winning the race to the post are shortening dramatically.
Ancelotti to Rangers is said to be driven by 49ers chief Andrew Cavenagh, a health insurance magnate who is leading the takeover.
