Man Utd teenage graduate saves SIX of his last NINE penalties
Former Manchester United teenage goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic has a barely believable recent penalty record.
The Napoli shot-stopper saved yet another penalty on Saturday to earn his side a point in the 0-0 draw at home to Como.
The 28-year-old parried Alvaro Morata's first-half spot-kick in what was the second penalty he has saved this week.
In midweek, the younger brother of former Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic also saved Francesco Camarda's penalty for Lecce at 0-0 in an eventual 1-0 win for Napoli.
Milinkovic-Savic penalty record
These two penalty saves were just the latest in what is an incredible recent penalty record.
The goalkeeper has now saved six of his last nine penalties dating back to his time at Torino, his previous club before his €20 million summer move to Napoli
Man Utd will be watching on with some regret as they signed the Serbian in 2015 while he was a teenager. After loaning him to Vojvodina for a year they were unable to secure a work permit and forced to sell him in 2016 to Lechia Gdansk.
The 6ft 7in giant has since gone from strength to strength, while United have for a number of years now struggled with their goalkeeper position.
Vanja was one of the best goalkeepers in Serie A last season along with Roma’s Mile Svilar.
He saved four of the seven penalties he faced in 2024-25, saving spotkicks from Christian Pulisic, Mateo Retegui, Santiago Castro and Mario Pasalic.
He made over 150 appearances for Torino after joining from Lechia Gdansk in Poland in 2017, also appearing on loan at SPAL and Ascoli.
Milinkovic-Savic has made 19 appearances for the Serbia national team, playing at the 2022 World Cup and also making the squad for Euro 2024 without appearing.
