Manchester United have 'entered the fray' for Vasco da Gama wonderkid Rayan, following reports that Arsenal had been left impressed with the attacker.

The 19-year-old is earning rave reviews in Brazil's Serie A this year. A powerful forward who can play across the frontline, Rayan has scored a respectable 11 goals in 27 league appearances. All told, he has netted 16 times in 46 outings in 2025.

Due to his playing style, the teenager has earned favourable comparisons to none other than Brazilian cult hero Adriano. One of the most iconic players of the 2000s, the former Inter attacker infamously had his hugely promising career derailed by his inability to cope with the loss of his father.

Just last week, pundit Neto claimed that Rayan could go on to outshine Adriano. “For me, Rayan from Vasco will be better than Adriano," he said. "He has the same style, but he’s more technical. He’ll be much better than Adriano. Rayan is the big revelation of the Brazilian Championship.”

Rayan has repeatedly been linked with Arsenal in recent times. The Gunners have reportedly been keeping close tabs on him and have been left hugely impressed by what they have seen.

Man Utd join Rayan race

Now, Bolavip claims that Man Utd have also joined the race to sign Rayan. It is claimed that the Red Devils are a 'strong contender' to sign him in January.

Rayan has the 'look and feel of a Premier League player,' which has attracted the attention of the Old Trafford outfit, who are keen to snap up promising talent from around the world.

After investing in the club and being given control over sporting operations, Sir Jim Ratcliffe famously said that he wants to unearth, for example, the next Kylian Mbappe instead of simply buying the Frenchman, as had been club policy before.

However, it is doubtful whether they will be able to land Rayan in January. Vasco da Gama's director of football Admar Lopes revealed last week that he fully expects the teenager to sign a new contract with the club.

"Regarding Rayan, we have control over what we can do, which is to make every effort to renew," he said. "Talks are advanced, and things are going well, both with his family, his agents, and the player.

"We're confident that, in the coming weeks or by the end of the year, we'll be able to renew, because that's also the player's wish. A contract renewal for a player with this impact increases everything: the financial terms, the contract length, and the release clause to protect Vasco."
