Liverpool play surprise role in Enzo Fernandez transfer saga
Real Madrid are reportedly set to submit an official offer for Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister during the January transfer window.
The Argentina international has been touted as a possible Los Blancos signing for several months and Xabi Alonso’s side are now ready to finalise a deal when the mid-season window opens on 1 January.
Mac Allister has been an integral member of Liverpool’s starting XI since his arrival from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2023, however Real Madrid are set to test their resolve with a formal bid next year, according to renowned X account IndyKaila.
It’s understood that Liverpool could consider a sale, with the club eager to sign two “elite” midfielders to replace the 26-year-old.
The Reds reportedly believe that Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton wants to complete a move to Anfield in 2026, while they are also set to target both Marc Guehi and Antoine Semenyo next year as Arne Slot looks to add further reinforcements to his squad following the club’s spending spree this summer.
Real Madrid, meanwhile, have identified Mac Allister as a top target as they look to finally land a replacement for Luka Modric after his summer departure to AC Milan.
Enzo Fernandez update
With Real Madrid reportedly eager to land Mac Allister in 2026, it likely signals the end of their pursuit of Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez.
The 24-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu since his short stint at Benfica and rumours of a transfer to Los Blancos have ramped up in recent months.
Widespread reports in the Spanish media have confirmed that Fernandez is seen as Alonso’s dream midfield target, however a deal is extremely unlikely to take place if Real Madrid are successful in their bid to secure Mac Allister’s signature.
Fellow Chelsea star Moises Caicedo has been earmarked as a target by the Los Blancos hierarchy too, but he is also now expected to remain at Stamford Bridge.
