Liverpool eye 'radical' surprise Slot replacement as pressure piles on under-fire manager

Liverpool are reportedly already considering options to replace Arne Slot if the title-winning manager continues to struggle after his side’s alarming decline in form.

The Premier League champions have lost six of their last seven games in all competitions, with games against Aston Villa, Real Madrid and Manchester City to follow, piling the pressure on Slot less than six months after leading Liverpool to their 20th top flight title.

Liverpool suffered their worst home cup defeat in 91 years this week after a 3-0 loss to Crystal Palace at Anfield, which saw Slot’s men knocked out of the Carabao Cup.

According to fichajes, the situation has prompted Liverpool to consider a move for Flilipe Luis, with the up-and-coming Brazilian coach gaining glowing reviews for his stint at Flamengo.

Luis – who had a short spell at Chelsea during his playing career – took over as Flamengo coach in September 2024 and quickly won the Copa do Brasil before leading his side to the final of the Copa Libertadores this week.

Liverpool are said to be considering a ‘radical change’ unless things improve on the pitch and before the season ‘slips away’.

Patience running out with Slot after bizarre team selection

A move for Luis would be a major risk even with the 40-year-old’s growing reputation and it would certainly be a shock if Liverpool turned to the young coach if they did pull the trigger over Slot.

Liverpool have reportedly put contract talks with Slot on hold despite initial suggestions that a new deal would be all but a formality, suggesting that the Dutchman’s future is certainly up for discussion as he enters the final 18 months of his current deal.

A number of Liverpool fans also turned on Slot after his selection gamble against Palace, which saw a line-up of mainly fringe and youth players as well as a vastly inexperienced bench.

Slot also further risked the ire of fans after insisting that he stood by his team selection, while also pointing to the strength in depth of rivals Chelsea and Manchester City despite Liverpool spending a league-high €482 million in the summer.
