Chelsea can sign World Cup finalist thanks to bargain release clause
Chelsea are interested in Boca Juniors wonderkid Milton Delgado, who could be quite affordable in January, according to Argentine media.
The 20-year-old has been catching the eye in recent weeks, primarily due to his outstanding performances at the U20 World Cup in Chile. Delgado played the full 90 minutes in every single one of Argentina's games, as they stormed to the final before losing to Morocco.
The central midfielder has to date made 35 senior appearances for Boca Juniors. He has played 18 times so far this year. He wasn't a regular in the build-up to the World Cup, but he immediately started after his return, which is surely a sign of things to come.
Naturally, Delgado's emergence hasn't gone unnoticed in Europe. Scouts from various elite clubs were in attendance at the World Cup, and he will have certainly left many of them impressed.
Indeed, according to Boca Noticias, Chelsea have taken a liking to Delgado as they continue in their quest to hoover up the world's most promising young players.
Chelsea want Delgado
The report states that Chelsea have a concrete interest in the 20-year-old, which appears to be concerning Boca as they are said to be 'keeping a close eye' on the Blues' advances.
Despite insisting that Delgado is 'one of Boca's best prospects,' the report acknowledges his struggles for minutes before the World Cup as a potential factor that could convince him to leave. Club bosses, on the other hand, do not want to lose him.
The Argentinian outlet refuses to predict whether Chelsea will actually make a move for him in January, but his price tag could make him very attractive to the Blues. His release clause is worth just $20 million (€17m).
It wouldn't be Chelsea's first raid on Boca, either. Just last year, the Stamford Bridge club snapped up defender Aaron Anselmino for around €16.5m. He is currently on loan at Borussia Dortmund.
