Man Utd Transfer News Today: Adam Wharton verdict as official update issued
FootballTransfers runs through the latest Manchester United transfer news, rumours and gossip, including updates on Adam Wharton and Joaquin Seys.
Adam Wharton verdict
Man Utd legend Paul Scholes has urged his former club to pursue a deal for Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton before the end of the summer transfer window.
The England international has been linked with an Old Trafford switch for several months, but interest appears to have cooled since the window opened and Scholes is bemused by the Red Devils’ current stance.
“I can’t believe Manchester United are not trying to buy Adam Wharton,” Scholes admitted on the latest episode of The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast.
“I think I’ve said on here before that Sandro Tonali would’ve been my first choice. But obviously with him gone now, Adam Wharton looks perfect for me.”
Joaquin Seys message
Club Brugge manager Ivan Leko has admitted that his side will struggle to reject an offer for Man Utd target Joaquin Seys before Deadline Day.
United are among the clubs interested in signing the left-back, amid their pursuit of a back-up option to Luke Shaw, and talks over a possible deal for Seys are expected to ramp up over the coming days.
“I’m proud that my guys are being linked to those clubs. We chat about it every now and then,” Leko told reporters on Saturday.
“If there’s a lot of money on the table, it’s obviously not easy to say no. The board’s aim is still to build a team that’s even better than last season.
“The right time to leave will come. [Christos] Tzolis has proved that. Let’s hope they’re all still here in September.”
Marcus Rashford latest
Harry Maguire wants Marcus Rashford to stay at Man Utd this season following his loan spell at Barcelona last year.
The England forward has returned to Old Trafford ahead of the 2026-27 campaign and he currently looks set to remain at the club, despite rumours suggesting that he wants to secure a permanent exit.
When asked about Rashford’s future, Maguire told reporters (via BBC Sport): “Obviously the transfer window is still open.
“As players, we hope he stays because if he does, he is a big asset to have. He can improve us for sure. You saw when he came on, he threatened the backline really well. He could have scored. He's a huge threat.
“I've played with Marcus for numerous years and I know that playing against him and playing with him in training is going to help us.”
Ibrahim Mbaye talks
Man Utd have initiated direct talks with the representatives of Paris Saint-Germain winger Ibrahim Mbaye, as per Football Fan Cast.
The Senegal attacker has been heavily linked with a PSG exit this summer and it’s understood that he has been earmarked as a possible signing by the Man Utd hierarchy as they consider bolstering Michael Carrick’s squad with additional reinforcements.
Several other top European clubs are also interested in Mbaye, but Man Utd have opened discussions with his camp in a bid to understand his contract demands.
Igor Matanovic eyed
Man Utd officials have held internal conversations over a possible move for Freiburg striker Igor Matanovic, according to GiveMeSport.
The Croatia international scored 11 goals in 31 Bundesliga games last season and he is regarded as a possible replacement for Joshua Zirkzee if the Dutchman leaves before Deadline Day.
Club officials have discussed a potential move, although Man Utd are yet to initiate formal talks with Freiburg.
