Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez has already agreed personal terms with Manchester City, FootballTransfers understands.

The Argentina international is looking to leave Chelsea this summer after growing frustrated with the club's lack of competitiveness in major competitions. Moreover, according to his agent Javier Pastore, the Blues made an underwhelming contract extension offer last season.

With Chelsea not in Europe this term, Fernandez feels this is the right time to leave the club. However, his dream transfer to Real Madrid has failed to materialise, forcing him to consider alternative options.

Man City is one such option. In fact, it may now be the only option at this stage. Ever since it became clear that former Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca would replace Pep Guardiola at Man City, there have been links with Fernandez.

The midfielder made no secret of the fact that he was shocked and disappointed when Maresca suddenly left Stamford Bridge on 1 January this year, with the two understood to have shared a strong relationship at Chelsea.

Fernandez agrees City terms

Despite having already acquired Elliot Anderson in a club-record deal and closing in on the signing of Ayyoub Bouaddi, Man City have made a strong push for Fernandez in recent days in a move driven by Maresca.

Man City believe that there is still room for one more midfielder amid ongoing talks with Barcelona over a deal for Rodri. The Spain international is thought to be on the verge of joining the reigning LaLiga champions.

FootballTransfers has been told by sources with knowledge of the discussions that Fernandez has already agreed personal terms with Man City. That part of the deal will not prove to be problematic.

The biggest hurdle Man City face is settling on a transfer fee with Chelsea. Discussions between the clubs are in full swing in a bid to find common ground, but we understand that there is no guarantee of a positive outcome.

Reports have claimed that Chelsea are demanding as much as €140 million for the 25-year-old, who still has six years remaining on his contract in West London. We can reveal that the Blues' ability to sign a replacement will also play a part in whether or not a deal can be agreed.

New manager Xabi Alonso has already added Valentin Barco and Jordan Henderson to his squad this summer, but there is a feeling that another addition may be necessary to adequately replace Fernandez, given his importance to the side since joining in January 2023.

This is backed up by the fact that Sky Sports reported on Tuesday that Chelsea had enquired about Myles Lewis-Skelly. This deal is a non-starter because Arsenal do not want to sell to a rival, but it shows that the Blues are attentive to the midfielder market.
