Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha has urged Mason Mount to stop “shying away from responsibility” following the Englishman’s poor start to life at Old Trafford.

Mount, 24, joined Man Utd from Chelsea for €64.2 million this summer and he is yet to score his first goal for his new club.

The midfielder has provided one assist in his nine Red Devils appearances so far, but the first few months of his Man Utd career have not gone to plan.

Furthermore, the former England international, who has not been selected in a Three Lions squad since the 2022 World Cup, has now been slammed for his lack of confidence in forward areas.

Saha told BettingOdds.com: “I've seen moments this season where Mason Mount isn't even asking for the ball. It's very shocking for me to see a player with that type of quality shying away from taking responsibility.

“He is too good of a player to play like this, to not show a willingness to get the ball and make a difference and it is not on.

“He has so much quality, but at the moment he doesn't seem to have any faith in himself. He needs to show courage and commitment and I am really unimpressed with Mason Mount at the moment.

“He has lost the keys to create damage to his opponents and to change games from midfield. He's going whole games where he is barely touching the ball, it's really strange.”

Mount won Chelsea’s ‘Player of the Season’ award in both 2020-21 and 2021-22, but he lost his crown last season after only five goal contributions and just over 1,500 minutes played in the Premier League.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side signed Christopher Nkunku this summer to take Mount’s vacant place in attacking midfield, but the France international is yet to feature for Chelsea after suffering a knee injury in pre-season.
