Fabrizio Romano Transfer News: Iraola Man Utd stance revealed after Carrick manager job update
Football transfer news insider Fabrizio Romano brings you all the latest from the market, with updates on Andoni Iraola's exit from Bournemouth and Michael Carrick's future at Manchester United.
Carrick latest and Iraola Man Utd links
Romano spoke about Michael Carrick’s chances of being named as Manchester United’s permanent manager after the departure of Andoni Iraola from Bournemouth.
Speaking on YouTube, Romano said: “What I can tell you about Manchester United is that, even after the Leeds United game, the feeling remains really positive around Michael Carrick. They are very happy with Carrick—with his attitude, his tactical decisions, his approach, and the relationship he has with the players.
“Man Utd are very happy, but obviously, they want to be in the Champions League next season, and that has to be the target for Carrick for the upcoming games.
“From now to the end of the season, Man United will make a decision on their permanent manager, but at the moment, I’m not aware of Man United negotiating with Andoni Iraola.
If you ask me, 'Would Andoni Iraola like to be the next Manchester United manager?' I’m told that he would be open to that for sure. But at the moment, nothing more than this.
“Let’s see what Man United decide to do with Michael Carrick, but the feeling remains optimistic and positive around him."
Jesus to consider Arsenal summer exit
Gabriel Jesus could leave Arsenal this summer, according to Romano, with the forward’s contract set to expire in 12 months’ time.
Romano said: “Regarding Gabriel Jesus, there have been stories from Italy. Gabriel decided to go with a new agent at the beginning of 2026 to start assessing his future. He is under contract with Arsenal until 2027, but I can guarantee to you that at this stage, the player is completely focused on trying to win something with Arsenal this season. He is really obsessed by that; he loves Arsenal.
“In the summer—not now in April or May—Gabriel Jesus could assess proposals in case of good bids for summer 2026. He could leave Arsenal one year before the expiration of his contract; that’s a possibility, but it’s not something he is actively searching for now.
"He wants to fight for titles, and then in the summer, the possibility for his exit could become concrete."
Terzic favourite for Athletic job as Iraola targets Premier League stay
Former Dortmund manager Edin Terzic is the most likely candidate to be named Athletic Club’s new manager, with Andoni Iraola eyeing a stay in the Premier League.
"Many of you are asking me about the Athletic Club (Bilbao) job—one of the most fascinating clubs in Spain. What I’m hearing, guys, is that the manager who is in advanced talks to take over Athletic Club is Edin Terzić, the former manager of Borussia Dortmund,” Romano said.
“Terzić had some possibilities in recent years in Italy and England, but now he is in touch with the Athletic Bilbao board. Nothing is signed so far, but he’s tempted by the job. My understanding is that he is the favourite to take over where Ernesto Valverde is leaving."
Speaking about Iraola, Romano added: “From what I understand, Iraola would like to continue in the Premier League and would be open to that.
“He already had some approaches in summer 2025 but decided to continue at Bournemouth. The club tried in every way to keep him by offering a new contract, but the decision of the Spanish manager is to leave at the end of the season. He will now complete the next two months, and then it’s going to be time to go."
