The Belgium star joined West Ham United for a Championship record transfer fee of €25.8 million last week and Celtic are keen to secure the signing of a new midfielder before Transfer Deadline Day, despite the recent arrival of Mika Baur from Paderborn.

Mahmic has been on the club’s radar for several weeks and a deal worth €10m is set to be completed shortly, according to The Daily Record.

Schalke, Club Brugge, Union St-Gilloise and Toulouse are also interested in the 21-year-old, however Celtic are in pole position to finalise a transfer and it’s understood that he returned to Slovan Liberec in order to say goodbye to his current team-mates this weekend.

The Hoops are yet to finalise contract terms with Mahmic, but talks with Slovan Liberec are at an advanced stage and he is set to become their all-time record sale when his imminent move to Celtic Park is officially announced.

Mahmic scored twice for Bosnia and Herzegovina at this summer’s World Cup and he will arrive in Glasgow after registering 12 goal contributions in 30 matches during his debut campaign at Slovan Liberec.

Gvidas Gineitis latest

In addition to Mahmic, Celtic are also keeping close tabs on Torino star Gvidas Gineitis, who has been linked with a move to the Scottish giants for several weeks.

The Sun report that Celtic will ramp up their bid to sign Gineitis following their Champions League second-leg play-off versus LASK on Thursday evening, with the Lithuania international regarded as an ideal player for Martin O’Neill’s system.

Torino are asking for a fee of €10.5m for Gineitis and it remains to be seen if the Scottish giants will continue to pursue a deal after the signing of Mahmic is officially completed.

Meanwhile, Celtic are also expected to sign Landon Emenalo on loan for the 2026-27 campaign, having reached an agreement with Chelsea, and they are set to intensify talks with Blackburn Rovers over a late move for goalkeeper Balazs Toth.
