Rangers are ready to put their Champions League disappointment behind them, with a deal brokered to secure manager Russell Martin more firepower.

Martin finds himself a man under pressure following the humiliating 6-0 loss to Club Brugge in the Champions League on Wednesday, which saw the Gers crash out 9-1 on aggregate in the playoff round.

The team fielded in Belgium contained eight summer arrivals but the manager, who is already seriously threatened with the sack, wants at least one more signing before the Gers’ Old Firm clash with Celtic on Sunday at Ibrox.

With Hamza Igamane destined to sign for Lille for around €12 million following a strop with Martin, Rangers have acted quickly to line up a replacement.

Heading to Glasgow is former Aberdeen striker Bojan Miovski, who is set to arrive after a difficult spell with Girona, who signed him for €8m from the Dons last summer.

Sky Sports confirms the deal: “Rangers have agreed a deal with Girona to sign striker Bojan Miovski.

“It is understood the initial fee will be around £2.6m, rising to £4.2m with add-ons.

“Miovski is thought to have agreed personal terms in principle ahead of a medical tomorrow.

“The move will see the former Aberdeen player return to Scotland just one year on from his £6.8m switch to Spain.

“He scored 44 goals in 98 games for the Dons, but struggled in LaLiga, netting just four times in 23 appearances.”

Rangers’ summer transfer record

Miovski will become Rangers’ 12th major signing of the summer, but while the Ibrox club have not been short on numbers coming in, the quality of arrivals has been alarming.

Only Djeidi Gassama and Lyall Cameron have impressed to any significant degree, with particular criticism levelled at defenders Max Aarons and Nasser Djiga for their lamentable displays since hooking up with the Glasgow giants on loan.

Rangers can scarcely afford to get this deal wrong, with defeat on Sunday against Celtic likely to spell the end for Russell Martin.
