Isak signs for Liverpool, Garnacho to Chelsea and 5 deals that will be done this week
The transfer window will shut in less than a week and there are still many big deals to be resolves, including the futures of Alexander Isak and Alejandro Garnacho.
Liverpool remain active in the market and are still tipped to make a couple of moves, while movement is expected at Manchester United, Chelsea, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal as the Premier League big guns finalise their squads for the season ahead.
Here are five huge moves that could be done this week.
Alexander Isak – Newcastle United to Liverpool
It’s the big one. Isak has been the name on everyone’s lips since he announced his desire to look at options away from Newcastle, effectively going public that he wants to move to Liverpool.
After the clubs clashed so dramatically in the Premier League on Monday – the Reds coming out on top 3-2 in a St James’ Park thriller – an acceleration to the deal was expected. That hasn’t happened yet, but the odds still look likely that Isak will leave the north east.
Although there’s no club-to-club agreement, the 25-year-old Sweden star has made it clear he wants the move, so this one could gather pace at any moment.
Newcastle, meanwhile, are targeting Jorgen Strand Larsen as Isak’s replacement.
Gianluigi Donnarumma – PSG to Manchester City
Here’s another deal that’s progressing slowly after being long touted. The big Italian goalkeeper will be leaving PSG this summer and he looks primed to sign for Manchester City, although the latest reports suggest there could be a late hijack attempt made.
Donnarumma is leaving the Champions League winners as he has been unable to agree on a new contract with them. As he only has a year left on his current deal, PSG have decided to sell him rather than risk losing him for nothing.
Ederson first needs to join Galatasaray to pave the way for this deal, but that transfer also appears to be heading for a swift conclusion.
Alejandro Garnacho – Man Utd to Chelsea
Fabrizio Romano says that Alejandro Garnacho will move to Chelsea, despite little fanfare being made.
Here’s what he reported on YouTube on Tuesday night: “Garnacho is going to Chelsea. I maintain my position. We just wait for the formal steps. But he’ll be a Chelsea player in my opinion.”
The Blues, of course, need to make sales, with Christopher Nkunku liable to be one of the players they sell.
Piero Hincapie – Bayer Leverkusen to Arsenal
The Gunners look set to make a late swoop for Ecuador international Hincapie from Leverkusen, although there is some wrangling over just how the deal will be concluded.
The Bundesliga giants want the player’s €60m release clause paid in full. It’s unclear whether Arsenal are willing to do this, but what is evident is that they want the 23-year-old.
Hincapie will replace Jakub Kiwior, who is set to join Porto.
Rasmus Hojlund – Man Utd to Napoli
Another player on his way out of Old Trafford is Rasmus Hojlund, who is close to completing a move to Napoli.
With Romelu Lukaku a long-term injury victim, the Serie A champions are seeking more firepower.
Ex-Man Utd player Scott McTominay has seen his career reborn in Naples, winning the Serie A Player of the Season title last year, and he is now set to be joined in Italy by the Denmark star.
