Arsenal deal in doubt as private jet cancelled
There are fears that Arsenal will miss out on their eighth signing of the summer following the cancellation of a private jet.
Mikel Arteta’s side are seeking to tie down the signing of Piero Hincapie from Bayer Leverkusen but an apparent delay in the Gunners securing that deal has had a domino effect.
Arsenal are in line to send Jakub Kiwior to Porto. The Poland international is expected to sign a five-year contract with the Portuguese giants, but that move has been put on hold after the plane that was going to take him to Portugal was cancelled at the request of the London club, The Mirror reports.
The Gunners will not sanction a move for Kiwior until the Hincapie deal is completed.
At present, there is no indication that there is anything more than a postponement.
Fabrizio Romano reported on Tuesday that Hincapie has already agreed on personal terms with the London side.
The football transfer news expert posted on X: “Piero Hincapie has said yes to Arsenal and personal terms have been agreed, long term deal ready!
“Understand Hincapie favours AFC and also seen as ideal signing by Arteta. Arsenal prepare opening bid, likely loan and obligation to buy… with Kiwior to FC Porto, soon.”
Potential sticking point
The sticking point for the Hincapie deal is likely to be over the left-sided centre-back’s price. Leverkusen appear intent on sticking to their demand that the player’s €60 million release clause is met before he is allowed to leave the club.
Arsenal may wish to negotiate on this figure, although Hincapie’s Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €59m suggests that they will do well to get the price down.
It may be, however, that the Premier League giants want more favourable payment terms on the deal.
Late in the transfer window, anything can happen, but it still seems likely that Hincapie becomes an Arsenal player and Kiwior gets his wish to fly out to Porto and sign for his new club.
