Arsenal AGREE deal with eighth summer signing - Fabrizio Romano
Arsenal have officially reached an agreement on personal terms with Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Ecuador international has emerged as a top transfer target for Mikel Arteta’s side during the final week of the summer window and they are eager to finalise a deal before the end of Deadline Day on 1 September.
Hincapie was spotted in tears after Leverkusen’s 2-1 loss to Hoffenheim on Saturday, amid immense speculation that he will leave the club this summer, and Arsenal are now pressing ahead with their pursuit of his signature.
Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur have also been linked with a move for the 23-year-old, although the former are unlikely to sign a new centre-back before the window closes, while the latter are currently focused on reaching an agreement to sign Manchester City winger Savinho.
As a result, Arsenal are the frontrunners for Hincapie and they lodged an official approach on Monday, as per The Athletic’s David Ornstein.
The Gunners have now agreed terms with the Ecuador star and are aiming to finalise a deal with Bayer Leverkusen, according to the aforementioned Romano.
The football transfer news expert posted on X: “Piero Hincapie has said yes to Arsenal and personal terms have been agreed, long term deal ready!
“Understand Hincapie favours AFC and also seen as ideal signing by Arteta. Arsenal prepare opening bid, likely loan + obligation to buy… with Kiwior to FC Porto, soon.”
Hincapie is expected to provide depth at both centre-back and left-back for Arsenal, with the 23-year-old set to compete with William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes, Cristhian Mosquera, Riccardo Calafiori and Myles Lewis-Skelly for a starting berth.
Jakub Kiwior to leave Arsenal?
With Hincapie close to joining Arsenal, it’s set to signal the end of Jakub Kiwior’s career at the Emirates Stadium.
The Poland international has been a key target for Porto throughout the entire summer transfer window and they are now on the verge of finalising an agreement with Arsenal.
That is according to Luca Bendoni, who claims Porto will sign Kiwior on an initial loan deal with an obligation to make the deal permanent for €26 million.
