Florentino Perez asks David Beckham for advice on Real Madrid transfer
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has reportedly asked David Beckham for his opinion on Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton ahead of a possible transfer next summer.
Wharton, 21, has emerged as a key target for Los Blancos amid their pursuit of a new central midfielder and they have been tipped to complete a move during the 2026 summer transfer window.
The former Blackburn Rovers star has also attracted significant interest from Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United in recent weeks, however Real Madrid are eager to win the race for his signature as they look to provide Xabi Alonso with additional midfield reinforcements.
The Spanish giants failed to replace club legend Luka Modric over the summer and it has been widely reported that Alonso is desperate for a new midfielder to arrive at the Santiago Bernabeu next year.
Wharton has been earmarked as a possible alternative to Argentina duo Enzo Fernandez and Alexis Mac Allister, and Spanish outlet Defensa Central claim that Real Madrid president Perez has stepped up his pursuit of the Englishman by seeking out Beckham’s verdict.
The former England superstar was brought to Real Madrid by Perez back in 2003 and he has reportedly been asked for his opinion on his compatriot.
Fellow Englishman Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jude Bellingham have also been asked for their views on Wharton as Real Madrid look to assess whether or not he would be a good fit in the Spanish capital.
Adam Wharton to join Real Madrid?
Rumours of Wharton joining Real Madrid in 2026 come after Crystal Palace co-owner Steve Parish admitted that a transfer will be on the cards if the Eagles fail to qualify for the Champions League.
He told talkSPORT: “I think Adam at some point will want to play either in the Champions League with us, if we can make that happen, or probably with another club.
“He's an extraordinary talent. I think right now, and I can't speak for Adam, but I think he's focused on his time at Crystal Palace.
“He had a broken season last season with the groin issues that he had that a lot of young players get.
“I think this season he's completely focused on putting the games in, getting in the England squad, being a regular for us, and making sure that he can show that Saturday, Sunday, Thursday, Sunday. It's a difficult programme for us right now.
“I think he's very committed to the club. I don't know where all this stuff comes from.”
