Barcelona could be set for a massive transfer this summer after being handed a blank cheque for one of their in-demand stars.

The Catalan outfit have, once again, been operating under tight constraints this summer, having only added Joan Garcia and Marcus Rashford on loan to their first team.

Barca’s ongoing struggle against La Liga’s wage cap prevented them from signing Nico Williams this summer and the club have raised just €23 million through sales, most of which was utilised for the €25m purchase of Garcia.

Consequently, Barca have been unable to pursue major transfers after failing to generate interest in a number of their stars whom they wish to sell, however they may be handed a lifeline by Saudi Arabia.

Jijantes FC report that the Saudi Pro League are aiming to sign Ferran Torres this summer and will offer the 25-year-old a €60m salary across three years to try and prise him away from Barca.

Crucially, they are said to be willing to pay whatever fee Barcelona request in order to convince the La Liga giants to part ways with a player who has become an important figure in Hansi Flick’s side.

Barcelona may sanction reluctant Torres sale to fund transfer business

Torres is coming off his best season with Barca after joining them for €55m in 2022, having provided a career-high ten goals and six assists despite only making 12 starts in La Liga.

Barcelona are desperate to make a significant sale this summer in order to sign more players but their preference is to cash in on the likes of Ronald Araujo or Andreas Christensen, however neither player has attracted much interest or seemed willing to push for an exit.

Torres, too, spoke earlier this month of his desire to remain at Barcelona and the club have even looked to extend his contract, which is due to expire in 2027.

Having largely been used as a backup to Robert Lewandowski up front, Torres said: “I only see myself in Barcelona. I will stay here and fight to earn my place in the team and become an undisputed starter.”
