Nick Woltemade is reportedly still tempted by a move to Bayern Munich despite his blistering start to life at Newcastle and the German side labelling his new club as ‘idiots’.

Bayern had strongly pushed to sign Woltemade during the summer but they refused to meet Stuttgart’s asking price, allowing Newcastle to swoop in the final days of the window and sign him for €75 million.

Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge sarcastically praised Stuttgart for finding ‘idiots’ in Newcastle who would pay their seemingly inflated fee.

Woltemade has since brushed off any doubts with five goals in his first nine appearances, leading to a claim by BILD reporter Christian Falk that the door on a move to Bayern is ‘not closed yet’.

“I would say the Bayern Munich chapter is not quite closed yet,” Falk told BILD. “He is only 23 and he could very well have imagined this move to Munich. I have also heard that it is not yet finalised.

“I don’t think we will see him in Munich next summer or the summer after but I think he will be more attractive in the future. Who knows, as his contract reaches the end he might become an option for Bayern.”

Newcastle have no regrets as Bayern continue displaying ‘sour grapes’ over Woltemade transfer

Woltemade has repeatedly expressed his happiness at Newcastle since replacing Alexander Isak as the club’s leading striker during the summer, while Eddie Howe has insisted the club have no concerns over the price they paid for the German international.

Bayern’s chiefs raised eyebrows with their comments over the deal, labelled by some on Tyneside as ‘sour grapes’ after the German giants lost out on their top striker target.

Speaking last month, Rummenigge said: "I can only congratulate them in Stuttgart for finding, so to speak, an idiot who would pay that much money, because we certainly wouldn't have done that.

Bayern sporting director Max Eberl also expanded on the saga this week, claiming that Woltemade had ‘repeatedly confirmed’ that he ‘absolutely wanted’ to move to Munich but Stuttgart would not accept their offer.
