Chelsea launch bid for ‘world-leading’ star
Chelsea are ready to compete with Tottenham Hotspur to sign a 19-year-old talent who has been described as a “world-leading” prospect who is out of contract at the end of the season.
The Blues are ready to make a move for Nigerian winger Sani Suleiman, who is regarded as one of the hottest young prospects in the game, TeamTalk reports.
At 18, he plays for Slovakian side AS Trencin, but it was at the recent Under-20 World Cup that the youngster caught wider attention.
Suleiman has enjoyed a breakout season for his club side, meanwhile. In just seven games this season, he has produced two goals and three assists, earmarking himself as a player to watch in the process.
Chelsea face competition from Tottenham, Rangers and Bayer Leverkusen for the attacker, whose contract expires at the end of the season.
It is unlikely to be a case of simply negotiating with Suleiman as a free agent, though. Trencin hold a two-year extension option that they will surely trigger, ensuring that they receive a sizeable fee for the player, who has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €675,000.
Why is Suleiman so highly rated?
Suleiman has been branded a “world-leading” player off the back of a report from the CIES Football Observatory, who recently ranked him as the most complete winger under the age of 21. This study was based off seven key metrics.
Chelsea’s project under BlueCo’s management has revolved around signing young talent to develop, though they have typically targeted more established and proven players than Sani.
Any deal for the teenager would be further complicated by the work permit status of the teenager. He is current ineligible to receive the green light to play in the UK, and unless something sizeable were to change between now and next summer, when Chelsea would likely move, that will remain the case.
