Chelsea fans have already turned against summer signing Jamie Gittens following another lacklustre performance, with his latest outing coming versus Brentford on Saturday night.

The England U21 international was handed his second Premier League start of the season against Keith Andrews’ side, but he was largely anonymous before being hooked in the 56th minute by Enzo Maresca.

Gittens took one speculative shot, with an xG of just 0.01, he only had 17 touches of the ball and he committed two fouls. The 21-year-old also failed to complete a dribble or a cross, while he was offside on two occasions.

It was an extremely poor display from a player who cost Chelsea an initial €56 million ($66m).

Furthermore, Gittens was also substituted in the 54th minute in his only other league start so far this term, which came against Crystal Palace in Chelsea’s opening match of the season.

He arrived from Borussia Dortmund with a reputation as one of the most dynamic young wingers in Europe, but Gittens has flattered to deceive since arriving at Stamford Bridge and he has only successfully completed two dribbles in four appearances for the club.

His poor start to life in west London is put into stark contrast when comparing him to Noni Madueke - who left Chelsea to join Arsenal in July.

The 23-year-old was fantastic for England during the international break and he was simply sublime versus Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon. As a result, Chelsea’s decision to sell him in order to bring Gittens to the club currently looks like a major error.

In fact, a host of Chelsea supporters have already expressed their dissatisfaction at the signing of Gittens following his first four games for the club.
