RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko is keen on a move to Arsenal, according to Sky Germany.

The Slovenia international has re-emerged as the Gunners' top target for the No.9 position after new sporting director Andrea Berta initially favoured a move for Viktor Gyokeres.

However, Mikel Arteta is reportedly pushing for the North London club to sign Sesko, with a lot of groundwork having been laid already last summer by then-director Edu Gaspar.

Sesko was left impressed with Arsenal's project but ultimately opted to stay at Leipzig for another season. This summer, the situation is expected to be different, with the Bundesliga side having missed out on European football for the first time since their promotion to the top flight.

Talks between Arsenal, Leipzig and Sesko have been taking place over the past week, and earlier on Friday, it was widely noted that new progress had been made in recent days.

Sesko keen on Arsenal move

Sky Germany now reports that Sesko is keen on a move to Arsenal, although personal terms have not yet been finalised. The outlet adds that the progress in discussions over the past 48 hours has been 'clear.'

Arsenal have yet to submit a formal bid for the 22-year-old, but getting the green light from the player is a significant breakthrough. The Gunners will likely try to open formal negotiations with Leipzig rather than trigger Sesko's release clause.

The striker's exit clause is variable and rose to over €80 million over the course of the season. Reports in Germany have claimed that Leipzig would be open to negotiating a different payment structure, but only at a premium price of potentially up to €100m.

However, it is doubtful that Leipzig will have their way. To be sure, Sesko is still under contract long-term, but it is clear that the player wants to leave, and the Red Bulls simply can't offer an attractive project anymore following a disastrous season.
