McTominay and Lukaku humiliate Man Utd as Napoli win Serie A

Napoli have been crowned Serie A champions for the fourth time in their illustrious history.
The Neapolitans came out on top in a hugely exciting title race with Inter, courtesy of a 1-0 victory over Cagliari on the final day of the season. Perhaps quite fittingly, the decisive goal on the day was scored by Scott McTominay.
McTominay was a dream target for new boss Antonio Conte when he joined Napoli in the summer, and the Serie A side managed to sign him from Man Utd in a €30.5 million deal.
The Red Devils felt compelled to cash in on their homegrown star due to concerns over Profitability and Sustainability Rules, but in truth, an eventual exit of the Scot had always felt inevitable.
As McTominay himself has stated, Man Utd 'misprofiled' him during his time at Old Trafford, and he never managed to reach the levels he has hit in Italy since being unshackled by Conte.
McTominay fires Napoli to Scudetto
McTominay scored a crucial goal to hand Napoli their fourth Scudetto - and second in three years - and he took his tally to 13 goals and six assists for the season in the process.
McTominay was already a player for the big moments and Man Utd, and this has continued in Naples. He scored five goals in three games in April to help Napoli bounce back from an indifferent run of form that ultimately paved the way for Friday's triumph.

A similar success story has been Romelu Lukaku - another Man Utd 'flop' and 'reject.' The 32-year-old scored 13 goals and provided 11 assists for the Partenopei in 2024/25, thus also playing a crucial role in their championship success.
To make matters worse for Man Utd, Napoli's McTominay and Lukaku-fuelled glory came just two days after the Red Devils were beaten in the Europa League final to officially condemn them to the worst season in their modern club history.
