Man Utd learn transfer status of €82m summer target - from his team-mate

Idrissa Gueye has issued a hands-off warning to Manchester United amid speculation linking them with his Senegal team-mate Iliman Ndiaye.

The Daily Mirror understands United are considering a move for Everton winger Ndiaye as they look to strengthen their options out wide.

Ndiaye, who has also been linked with Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal, is valued at €82million (£70m) by Everton, according to The Athletic.

However, United have now been told to look elsewhere by Ndiaye’s international colleague Gueye on social media.

In a post on X, Everton revealed Ndiaye has now returned to training following an extended break after his World Cup exertions.

Clearly aware of the transfer talk surrounding Ndiaye, Gueye replied to Everton’s social media post with the comment: “Here to stay.”

Gueye built strong affinity with Everton over two spells

Gueye holds the Toffees close to his heart despite leaving the club following the expiration of his contract in June.

The 36-year-old made 236 appearances across two spells with Everton, and was instrumental in them avoiding Premier League relegation in 2022-23 and 2023-24.

Gueye and Ndiaye were Everton team-mates over the last two seasons, while they remain colleagues on the international stage with Senegal.

The pair were included in the Senegal squad for this summer’s World Cup, helping their nation reach the knockout phase.

The African side have since sacked Pape Thiaw as manager after they passed up a two-goal lead to lose 3-2 to Belgium in the round of 32.

Man Utd looking to strengthen in four positions

Man Utd meanwhile are currently assessing their next move in the transfer market ahead of Michael Carrick’s first full season in charge.

Carrick was handed the Red Devils job on a permanent basis in May after an impressive spell as interim manager last season.

He replaced Ruben Amorim in January and inspired the club to a third-place Premier League finish - and subsequent qualification for the UEFA Champions League - in 2025-26.

The 20-time league champions have so far signed Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans and Karl Darlow this summer.

BBC Sport understands United want to sign another central midfielder and a back-up striker, as well as a left-back and also a left winger, amid tentative links to Ndiaye.
