Todd Boehly will sign Lazio’s goalscoring goalkeeper hero Ivan Provedel as a striker for Chelsea!

Those were the words of ESPN FC pundit Craig Burley, who joked that Boehly would move for the Lazio shot-stopper following his Champions League heroics.

Provedel became a sensation in Rome on Tuesday evening when he headed home a 96th minute equaliser for Lazio against Atletico Madrid with the last kick of the match.

This sparked wild celebrations in the Stadio Olimpico as Lazio substitutes and staff charged onto the pitch to celebrate with Provedel.

It was only the third time in history that a goalkeeper has scored in the Champions League in open play.

And incredibly it was the second goal scored by Provedel in his career.

Reacting to the game, Burley joked that Boehly may now look to sign Provedel and play him as a striker for Chelsea.

What did Burley say about Provedel?

“If Todd Boehly was watching that, we know what will happen,” Burley said on ESPN.

“He will say ‘I got this idea, I saw this big lad in Italy, BOSH, up front with Nico Jackson, maybe a pair’.

“We can give him an eight-year contract, €70 million.”

Burley was of course mocking the sheer amount of money spent by Chelsea recently, with Boehly splashing out over €1billion in the last year.

He was also referencing the crisis Chelsea have in attack, with the club still lacking a top-class number nine.

First-choice striker Nicolas Jackson has only scored one goal this season, despite impressing in his overall game.

Chelsea are expected to try and sign a new striker in the January transfer market.
