Chelsea midfielders Jorginho and N’Golo Kante are free transfer options for Barcelona in 2023, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The midfield pair have been instrumental players for the Blues over the past few years, especially during the club’s 2021 Champions League success.

However, both are now the wrong side of 30 and see their contracts expire at the end of the current season.

There is no guarantee that either player will pen a new deal, especially Kante as he has been struggling from increasing injury problems.

Barcelona have been heavily linked with both players in recent days, having signed a host of free transfers in the last year or two.

This past summer, Barca bought Franck Kessie and Andreas Christensen on a Bosman transfer, while a year ago they brought in Sergio Aguero, Memphis Depay and Eric Garcia.

Could Jorginho and Kante be next?

What did Romano say about Jorginho and Kante?

“Chelsea fans have been asking me for updates, but I’m afraid there’s nothing agreed yet with N’Golo Kante and Jorginho,” Romano wrote in his Caught Offside column.

“Both of them are still in talks with Chelsea but it’s not something close as of now. It will also depend on the board.

“As we know, Barcelona will monitor many free agents ahead of next summer, but they say it’s too early to see what happens on this situations regarding specific targets.

“Barcelona director Mateu Alemany confirmed the plan to target more free agents in 2023: ‘We’ve to focus more and more on the market of players who are free. This year we have done it with Kessie, Christensen, Marcos Alonso and Bellerin, with many more to come.’,” Romano added.

Kante is currently out injured, while Jorginho played and scored a penalty on Tuesday in the 2-0 Champions League win over Milan at San Siro.
