Alvaro Morata has been floated as a potential makeweight in a deal for Cristiano Ronaldo. But what does the Atletico Madrid man think of a move to Manchester United?

Atletico have emerged as the most likely destination for United's wantaway forward, Ronaldo.

The player reportedly wants to extend his Champions League record of 140 Champions League goals, and Atletico could offer him the chance to do that in 2022/23, unlike United.

The club's manager Diego Simeone is also keen to sign the player, even if he is a Real Madrid legend who previously scored 25 goals in 37 games against Atleti.

Many clubs have baulked at the potential €24 million package it would take to sign Ronaldo, but Atletico could add Morata to the deal in part-exchange, reducing their outlay and providing United with an alternative up front.

The problem is, Morata's in electric form at the start of this season, having followed up his hat-trick against Juventus in pre-season with a brace in Atleti's opening day 3-0 win at Getafe.

Morata: 'I want to play here'

"I really want to play here, work and play in many competitions," Morata said when asked about his future. "I'm excited to be here, as always, I can only work and run for the team in every game.

"Speculation over my future? It's what comes out in the press, I just wanted to work and work. Atletico are one of the best clubs in the world. If there's a market I can't do anything, just work. I'm happy here and I want to continue working."

Morata previously spent three years with Chelsea between 2017 and 2020, scoring 24 goals across 72 games in all competitions.

Like Ronaldo if he moved, Morata has turned out for both Madrid giants, and won the Champions League with Real in 2014 and 2017.
