Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that his son Davide is in talks with a 'European team,' seemingly confirming that Rangers are looking to strike a deal for the Italian.

The Gers have been on the hunt for a permanent new manager for a few months now after sacking Philippe Clement in February. Club legend Barry Ferguson took charge of the side in the interim and did a solid job, but the Glasgow outfit are expected to bring in a more high-profile name.

Steven Gerrard, who previously helped Rangers break Celtic's monopoly on the Premiership, has been in talks over a return to the club, while there have also been links with former RB Leipzig boss Marco Rose. Russell Martin and Nathan Jones have also been mentioned.

The most intriguing name to be linked with Rangers has been Davide Ancelotti, whose future is uncertain after his father's departure from Real Madrid. The 35-year-old has to date only ever been an assistant coach.

There have been reports that he wants to link up with his father again in his new job as manager of Brazil's senior men's national team, but it seems that those claims were premature.

Ancelotti in talks with a 'European team'

Earlier on Monday, Carlo Ancelotti named his first Brazil squad and faced the press as he began his new chapter in South America. Inevitably, he was asked about the conspicuous absence of his son.

The 65-year-old provided an illuminating response by confirming that Davide is currently in talks with a 'European team,' although he did not explicitly name Rangers.

"Davide is currently in negotiations with a European team, and it didn't seem right to bring him in," the elder Ancelotti said. "If he goes to a club, I wish him the best, and if not, he can come back to us."

Davide previously served as an assistant to his father at Real Madrid, Everton, Napoli and Bayern. Prior to attaining his UEFA A license, he worked as a fitness coach.
