Kylian Mbappe’s psychological harassment court case dismissed
Kylian Mbappe’s case against PSG for psychological harassment has been dismissed by courts in France.
Mbappe sought compensation from his former club, claiming that the methods they used to try to keep him as his contract ticked down in his final months in Paris were illegal.
But after taking the case through the French legal system, the Real Madrid attacker failed in his bid for compensation, with AFP (via L'Equipe) reporting that there was a ‘lack of sufficient’ evidence leading to the Ballon d’Or nominee withdrawing his complaint.
The history of Mbappe’s PSG dispute
Mbappe’s claims stemmed from the summer of 2023, when he had a year left on his deal with PSG.
The Ligue 1 champions believed that he was morally obliged to take up an optional year in the agreement he had with the club and froze him out of the squad for their opening match of the 2023/24 season against Lorient.
Colloquially in France, he was put in the ‘loft’.
Mbappe filed a complaint in May 2025 claiming that this amounted to psychological harassment and attempted extortion in a bid to get him to extend his stay with the club.
Ultimately, this was the height of a public feud played out between the 2018 World Cup winner and his club. He went on to score 44 goals in 48 matches across all matches that season, but it was the last before he completed his high-profile 2024 move to Real Madrid as a free agent.
Rhis was only the beginning of a legal battle between Mbappe and his former club. The striker sought substantial compensation of unpaid, wages, bonuses and vacation time, which he ultimately won in a labour court. PSG were ordered to pay him €61 million and did not appeal the ruling.
Mbappe has not, however, won this claim against his former club.
Why Mbappe’s case was thrown out
AFP reports that the magistrates stated that Mbappe had “withdrawn his complaint” and had “made this public in the press”, making it to “impossible to investigate”. Further to this, it is added that “there would be no point in questioning the witnesses and those implicated… when the complainant himself does not support them”.
Mbappe’s lawyer Pierre-Olivier Sur and PSG both refused to comment on the case, which should finally bring to an end the long-running legal wrangle.
