RB Leipzig have confirmed the signing of Manchester United transfer target Brian Brobbey from Ajax on a free transfer.

The young, Dutch talent only made his debut for Ajax in October 2020 but had already garnered a huge amount of interest from around Europe following his incredible performances in the club’s youth teams.

In 37 matches for Holland’s national youth teams, Brobbey has already scored 26 goals and won the Under-17 European Championship in both 2018 and 2019.

As such, the centre forward was linked with a number of Europe’s biggest clubs, most notably Manchester United who had reportedly been keeping tabs on the youngster’s contract situation at Ajax.

Following Brobbey’s decision not to sign a professional deal with the club, he was then allowed to agree a deal with another club and make a free transfer this summer, which is what he’ll now do in joining RB Leipzig on a four-year deal.

‘Brobbey had several offers from top clubs around Europe’

“RB Leipzig is a great club and is playing an amazing season,” the young talent said to the club’s website upon the announcement of his transfer.

“Julian Nagelsmann is a young and very good coach, who I can learn a lot from. The team is stable and gives off a strong feeling of unity.

“I’m looking forward to joining the team and of course want to play my part in helping the club be so successful.”

Upon confirming his signing, RB Leipzig’s sporting director, Markus Krösche, confirmed that the Bundesliga side had beaten a number of Europe’s top clubs such as Man Utd to the signing of Brobbey.

“As a young, very versatile and determined player, Brian Brobbey fits the profile of an RB Leipzig player very well,” said Krösche.

“He has shown with Ajax that he can do it on the big stage in Europe. We’re delighted that Brian has opted to join us, as he had several offers from top clubs around Europe.

“We will enjoy having him in the coming season.”
