Viktor Gyokeres' move to Arsenal is at risk of collapse as the Gunners and Sporting Lisbon are making no headway over the transfer fee.

Fabrizio Romano declared over the weekend that Gyokeres was very close to completing his move to the Emirates, and that the 'Here we Go' announcement was not far away.

However, according to reports in Portugal on Wednesday, this is very premature and in fact Arsenal are even considering walking away from the deal.

Record reports that Arsenal's latest offer consists of a €65 million fixed fee plus €15m in add-ons.

However, Sporting Lisbon are demanding a €70m fixed fee plus add-ons.

There has reportedly been no progress in talks since the weekend - with negotiations completely blocked.

Record reports that Arsenal's representatives in Lisbon - sporting director Andrea Berta flew there last week - have now returned to London after failing to close the deal.

The report adds that Arsenal are even considering walking away from the deal.

Gyokeres to Arsenal at risk?

Fabrizio Romano reported at the weekend that Gyokeres is on the verge of joining Arsenal and multiple outlets followed that up by claiming that he will move to the Emirates Stadium for €80 million.

The problem, though, appears to be the payment structure of this fee.

Arsenal and Gyokeres have already agreed on a contract until 2030, with salary and terms all settled upon.

A public war has been ongoing all summer between the player’s entourage and his club over his asking price.

Gyokeres’ agents claimed that Sporting broke a promise to sell him for around €60m plus €10m in bonuses, while Sporting denied a promise was ever made.

Duncan Castles revealed on the Transfers Podcast recently that Gyokeres was very upset at Sporting breaking a promise to sell him this summer for the mentioned fee.

Castles added that there is a clause in his contract that Sporting must pay Gyokeres a €6m penalty fee if they do reject offers of over €60m.

A Bola reported that this clause was activated as of Tuesday 1 July.

That €6m will go to Gyokeres’ agent Hakan Cetinkaya, and meant that Arsenal could put the pressure on Sporting by bidding over that amount.

Gyokeres is the hottest striking property around right now after having an incredible season, scoring 54 goals in 52 games in all competitions, and leading Sporting to another league title.

This follows on from his brilliant form from last season for Sporting where he scored 43 goals in all competitions for his club.
