Liverpool have identified a new Premier League star as the solution to their midfield issues amid fears that Alexis Mac Allister could leave the club next summer.

Mac Allister is in the final two years of his contract at Anfield and the 27-year-old admitted recently that he is disappointed by the club having yet to offer him a new contract, with Real Madrid among the teams reportedly ready to pounce on any uncertainty.

Liverpool are likely to target a midfielder next year after opting against replacing Curtis Jones in the summer, with Bournemouth’s Alex Scott expected to be a standout option for the Reds.

However, with plenty of competition for the €100 million-rated Scott, Swiss outlet 4-4-2.ch report that Aston Villa’s record summer signing Johan Manzambi has emerged as a target for Liverpool in recent internal discussions.

It is claimed that ‘the decision-makers at Anfield have consistently spoken favourably about Manzambi’, with the 21-year-old being monitored after a bright start to life at Villa Park.

Manzambi joined Villa for €60m in the summer after a standout 2026 World Cup and the Swiss international already has two goals and two assists in his first five appearances for the club across all competitions.

Manzambi was a star performer for Freiburg before announcing himself on the global stage by becoming the youngest player in over 60 years to record five goal contributions at a World Cup, with three goals and two assists.

Having led Manzambi to the Europa League final last season against Villa in a tournament where he was named the competition’s young player of the season, Unai Emery’s side beat Newcastle to the midfielder’s signature in July.

With five years on his contract, Villa will have no desire to cash in on Manzambi so soon after his arrival, while Liverpool would also be more likely to go for a more proven option such as Scott, who can also play deeper in midfield.

However, should Manzambi continue his form throughout the season then it would not be a surprise if interest continues to develop and, with the youngster now firmly on Liverpool’s radar, a deal cannot be ruled out in the future.
