Fabrizio Romano confirms Rabiot to Man Utd offer
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Adrien Rabiot will be offered to Manchester United after being told to leave Marseille this month.
Marseille have made the decision to sell Rabiot after a high-profile dressing room clash with England Under-21 winger Jon Rowe following a 1-0 loss to Rennes on Friday.
Rowe has also been put up for sale, with the wideman in negotiations to join Bologna.
The transfer listing of Rabiot has alerted many of Europe's biggest clubs, and Romano says that Man Utd will be one of the sides who the midfielder's representatives will offer their client to.
Rabiot offered to Man Utd
“There was this tense situation at Marseille that led to the club putting Rabiot and Jonathan Rowe out of the squad," Romano said on his YouTube channel.
"Rabiot is no longer part of Roberto De Zerbi’s squad and is available. Marseille even released an official statement to say he’s up for sale. They want something like €15-20 million to let him leave.
“He was a target for Man Utd many years ago but in recent years was never very close. I’m not hearing any concrete about them being in negotiations or talks for Rabiot. He’s going to be offered to Man Utd and many other clubs as an opportunity. But it’s an open situation.
“I think United wanted to go for Carlos Baleba for his intensity. Rabiot is a different profile.”
Man Utd are in the market to sign a central midfielder before the end of the transfer window so could become a potential option later in the market despite not being the ideal profile Ruben Amorim is looking for.
Man Utd were heavily linked with signing Rabiot last summer on a free transfer after he left Juventus, but he eventually moved to Marseille.
The Red Devils were also expected to sign Rabiot on a free transfer in the summer of 2023 as his contract at Juventus ticked down.
But the midfielder chose to stay in Turin in the end, signing a new one-year extension days before his contract expired.
It was the second time in a year that he had rejected United.
It is widely understood that Juventus and Man Utd agreed on a transfer fee worth €18m plus €6m in add-ons in the summer of 2022.
But United were unable to agree personal terms with Rabiot, with Veronique again blamed for excessive demands. United then signed Casemiro instead.
Rabiot made 31 appearances for Marseille last season, scoring 10 goals.
