Real Madrid make Erling Haaland transfer decision

Real Madrid are unlikely to seriously pursue a deal for Erling Haaland next year even if Manchester City receive a hefty punishment after being found guilty of 114 of their 115 alleged financial breaches.

Haaland has been linked with a move to Los Blancos for several seasons and rumours of a Bernabeu switch have intensified in recent days, with a host of City stars likely to leave the club if they receive a points deduction that relegates them to the Championship.

Barcelona and Real Madrid both hold historical interest in Haaland, however the latter are extremely unlikely to pursue a deal next year, as per a report from Spanish outlet SPORT.

Haaland still has eight years remaining on his current contract at Man City, after signing a lucrative extension in 2025, and with a stacked attacking roster that includes Vinicius Junior, Kylian Mbappe, Yan Diomande, Rodrygo, Carlos Espi and Endrick, it’s reported there is no realistic possibility for the Norway striker to move to the Bernabeu.

As a result, the Spanish giants will need to sign an alternative target if they wish to bring another new centre forward to the club next year.

SPORT also claim that Real Madrid will not rekindle their interest in Rayan Cherki due to the presence of Jude Bellingham, Arda Guler and Brahim Diaz in their current first-team squad. Meanwhile, Josko Gvardiol’s decision to sign a new contract at Man City is also likely to block a potential switch to Los Blancos.

Will Barcelona sign Erling Haaland in 2027?

With a move to Real Madrid unlikely, Barcelona would arguably be the frontrunners in the race to sign Haaland if he pushes to leave Man City.

Hansi Flick’s side are in desperate need of a new centre forward after failing to finalise a deal for Julian Alvarez over the summer, and Haaland would be among their top targets if a transfer is deemed to be viable.

The Norway striker has scored 169 goals in 205 matches for City since his move from Borussia Dortmund, and he would form the best attacking unit in world football alongside Raphinha and Lamine Yamal if a move to Camp Nou takes place.
