Leeds consider paying €20m clause as Milinkovic-Savic talks progress
Leeds have overtaken Napoli in the race to sign Torino penalty save specialist Vanja Milinkovic-Savic.
Alfredo Pedulla reports that Leeds are making a concerted push for Milinkovic-Savic, who is set to leave Torino this summer.
Leeds held talks with Torino on Monday night and negotiations are progressing well.
Pedulla says Leeds are now considering activating the goalkeeper's clause, which stands at just over €20 million for foreign clubs. The clause expires at the end of July.
In the process, Leeds could take advantage of Napoli's hesitation as the Italian champions had initially been favourites for the player.
However, Pedulla says that Napoli have not yet made a decisive move for Milinkovic-Savic.
Milinkovic-Savic has a contract with Torino until 2026, but the Granata do have an option to extend by another year.
Man Utd have also been linked with signing the Torino man to replace Andre Onana, but they themselves have not firmed it up with anything concrete.
Milinkovic-Savic spent two years on the books at Man Utd a decade ago, but he never made a senior appearance for the Red Devils as he was still a teenager at the time.
Milinkovic-Savic, who has a release clause of just under €20m for Italian clubs, has been a standout performer in Serie A in recent seasons.
Much like his famous brother Sergej Milinkovic-Savic now at Al-Hilal, Vanja has established himself as a very good player in the Italian top flight.
Vanja was one of the best goalkeepers in Serie A this past season along with Roma’s Mile Svilar.
Standing at 6ft 8in, he has a giant presence and commanding nature in the area.
He has become best known this season for his incredible record from penalty kicks.
He saved four of the seven penalties he faced in 2024-25, saving spotkicks from Christian Pulisic, Mateo Retegui, Santiago Castro and Mario Pasalic.
He has made over 150 appearances for Torino since joining from Lechia Gdansk in Poland in 2017, almost appearing on loan at SPAL and Ascoli.
Milinkovic-Savic has made 19 appearances for the Serbia national team, playing at the 2022 World Cup and also making the squad for Euro 2024 without appearing.
