Luis Diaz 'agrees' Liverpool exit after Jota funeral backlash
Luis Diaz could be on his way out of Liverpool this summer after reportedly agreeing terms to join Bayern Munich, although Barcelona have also not given up hope of signing the winger.
Bayern are stepping up their chase for an attacking player after seeing Jamal Musiala suffer a broken leg during the Club World Cup quarter-final loss to Paris Saint-Germain.
With top target Nico Williams having snubbed both Bayern and Barcelona to extend his contract with Athletic Club, the two European giants are now set to battle for another target in Diaz.
Bayern will feel they have the edge in the race, with BILD claiming that the Colombian has reached a verbal agreement to join the Bundesliga side.
However, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Barcelona ‘have not given up hope’ in signing Diaz, with a formal approach expected in the coming days.
But Liverpool are understood to be reluctant to sanction Diaz’s departure, having already rejected two previous approaches from Barca but they may reconsider their stance if they receive an offer in the range of €80 million.
Jota situation complicates Diaz Liverpool exit
Diaz provoked fury from some Liverpool fans in the wake of Diogo Jota’s death, having been pictured at a party in Colombia around the same time as his teammate’s funeral.
The tragic situation surrounding Jota could complicate matters, with Liverpool forced to consider the footballing implications of their loss and having even less of a desire to part ways with another forward in Diaz.
Liverpool are also still in mourning following the news of Jota’s passing last Thursday and the club have yet to return to ‘business as usual’, at least publicly.
The first phase of players were expected to return for pre-season last Friday, with a larger contingent arriving on Monday but the date was postponed to Tuesday to allow Liverpool’s squad time to mourn and attend Jota’s funeral last Saturday.
