EXCLUSIVE: Arsenal will NOT sell Ethan Nwaneri to Chelsea
FootballTransfers understands that Arsenal have no intention of selling Ethan Nwaneri to Chelsea, with reports that the player is unsettled blown all out of proportion.
There have been sensational stories in the last few days that the wonderkid wants guarantees on playing time before signing a new contract at Arsenal.
The teenager has only mustered nine minutes of action from a possible 540 since late April, with TBR Football claiming that his camp have “concerns” about his immediate future at Arsenal.
Nwaneri’s current deal is due to expire in 2026 and there have been reports that Arsenal’s development plan hasn’t convinced his representatives.
This has led to rumours that Chelsea are planning to make a move for Nwaneri, with Fabrizio Romano even reporting that they are keeping tabs on the contract situation.
Nwaneri staying at Arsenal
However, FootballTransfers has learned that all these reports questioning Nwaneri's future at Arsenal have been blown out of proportion.
We understand that Nwaneri has already agreed to (although, not yet signed) a five-year contract and is fully committed to the club.
Game time was discussed during contract negotiations last summer, and since then Nwaneri has developed fantastically.
Up until March, whilst he was still 17, Nwaneri had played 37 times across all competitions, including seven appearances in the Champions League. He scored nine goals and provided two assists.
Only Wayne Rooney had played more by that age, which shows just how impressive Nwaneri has been.
We understand that Nwaneri trusts manager Mikel Arteta fully, whilst he has an attachment to the club as a fan and academy player.
Arsenal have no intention of selling Nwaneri to Chelsea.
A loan deal elsewhere can’t be completely ruled out for the 2025-26 season, but that would only happen if Nwaneri himself requested it.
Nwaneri has been in line for a bumper new contract for months as his current deal expires in 2026.
Due to his age, Nwaneri was previously unable to sign deals that run for more than three years.
