EXCLUSIVE: Man City target Denzel Dumfries following Kyle Walker sale
Manchester City have initiated talks with Inter Milan over a transfer for Denzel Dumfries, FootballTransfers has been told by sources close to the club.
Having sold Kyle Walker to Burnley in a deal worth €6 million (£5m), Man City are on the hunt for more depth on the right side of their defence and have earmarked Dumfries as an ideal transfer market opportunity.
Now the Etihad club are in the process of exploring the willingness of the Netherlands international to complete a move to the club.
Man City have hit the headlines with their spending during 2025. Already the club has splashed out nearly €400m in the transfer market, with Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Rayan Cherki arriving this summer in high-profile moves.
Dumfries, though, has a release clause worth just €25m with Inter. A deal will have to be rushed through to get him at this price, as the clause expires on 15 July. City are said to see this deal as being too good to pass up.
Advantage City in Dumfries race
Barcelona have also taken an interest in the 29-year-old former PSV player. The Blaugrana’s eye has also been caught by the attractive release clause for Dumfries, who has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €30.6m.
With the Camp Nou side constrained by their finances, which saw them miss out on a move for Nico Williams, it is doubtful they could compete with City in this case should Pep Guardiola’s side seriously move.
In addition, the Manchester side hold a further advantage as they are said to have an excellent relationship with the player’s agent. This could help facilitate a quick deal.
Dumfries was a key figure for Inter last summer as they made a charge to the Champions League final. He was a thrilling attacking presence from deep for Simone Inzaghi, contributing 11 goals and five assists.
This echoes the impact that Walker had at City when at his best, and now it appears Guardiola is hopeful Dumfries can have a similar impact at a bargain price.
