Chelsea have officially completed the signing of Jordan Henderson on a Bosman deal following the mutual termination of his Brentford contract.

The England midfielder, who was a surprise inclusion in Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad, has penned a two-year contract at Stamford Bridge, valid until 2028, and his arrival follows the signing of Danny Welbeck as Chelsea look to address the issues they have experienced with a young squad in recent years.

“Given the size of the club, the manager, who I have great admiration for, and the quality of the players, this was a huge opportunity I couldn’t turn down," Henderson told the official Chelsea website upon confirmation of his move to west London.

“I was also so impressed with how much the ownership want Chelsea to be successful and move in the right direction.

“For me, it's about giving everything every single day, both on and off the field, to help the players around me and the team as much as possible. I'm very excited to get going.”

Henderson made 34 appearances across all competitions for Brentford last term, scoring one goal and providing three assists, and the Bees agreed to mutually terminate his contract after just one season in order to allow him to join Chelsea on a free transfer.

Official: Jordan Henderson joins Chelsea

Henderson has become Chelsea's 10th signing of the summer window, with the Blues acting promptly following a hugely disappointing 2025-26 season, in which they finished 10th in the Premier League.

The Blues have spent just shy of €400 million on the signings of Morgan Rogers, Maxence Lacroix, Marco Palestra, Geovany Quenda, Valentin Barco, Emmanuel Emegha, Denner, Danny Welbeck and Dastan Satpaev so far this summer, with Henderson joining that contingent on a Bosman deal.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have also been buoyed by the news that Mykhailo Mudryk has been cleared to play after his four-year doping ban was officially cut short. He has joined his team-mates in Hong Kong for their pre-season tour, but the understanding is that he may be sent out on loan for the duration of next season amid interest from Coventry City and several other clubs across Europe.
