Manchester United are on the verge of signing Aston Villa midfielder Youri Tielemans after agreeing to trigger his €41 million release clause.

The Red Devils have already finalised a €58m deal for Chelsea star Andrey Santos, amid their pursuit of midfield reinforcements, and a move for Tielemans comes after Atalanta's Ederson failed his medical at Old Trafford.

Ederson's proposed transfer to the Red Devils is now off, and the club are instead set to sign Tielemans, as first called by David Ornstein. It's understood that he is keen to join Man Utd ahead of the 2026-27 season and discussions are ongoing between all parties following Belgium's World Cup exit.

Tielemans, who has two years remaining on his current contract at Aston Villa, reportedly has several suitors across Europe, but he favours a move to Man Utd and Fabrizio Romano has revealed that a full agreement is in place for him to move to Old Trafford for €41m (£35m).

Aston Villa had no intention of allowing the 29-year-old to depart this summer, but their hand was forced due to a release clause included in his contract and the Belgian is expected to be formally announced as a Man Utd player within the next week.

Tielemans made 35 appearances across all competitions for Aston Villa last season, scoring two goals and providing seven assists, and he is set to become the third player to depart the club on a permanent deal this summer after Donyell Malen and Enzo Barrenechea.

Analysis: How much will Youri Tielemans cost?

Tielemans' Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) currently stands at €35.2m, but Man Utd are set to pay €41m to acquire his signature after triggering a release clause in his Aston Villa contract.

Villa have already been dealt a major midfield blow this summer following Amadou Onana's ACL injury, and their hopes of retaining Tielemans for at least another season have now faded completely.

They have finalised a deal to sign Freiburg star Johan Manzambi, but he is more of an attacking midfielder and they will therefore need to dip back into the market for a more defensive option if Tielemans joins Man Utd as expected.

Villa are also set to field offers for Morgan Rogers amid significant interest from Arsenal and Chelsea, while Ezri Konsa and Ollie Watkins have both been linked with summer exits too.
