Barcelona have reached an agreement with Borussia Dortmund to sign Karim Adeyemi.

The Blaugrana's odd summer transfer window continues apace, with the reigning LaLiga champions now on the verge of wrapping up their second winger signing.

After agreeing an eye-watering €80 million deal with Newcastle for Anthony Gordon, Barcelona are now set to complete the signing of Borussia Dortmund speedster Adeyemi.

Despite previously haggling over a €30m fee for Marcus Rashford, Barcelona are poised to spend more than €100m on different wide forwards this summer. According to Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona will pay €22m upfront for Adeyemi.

Additionally, Dortmund will be owed €7m in performance-related bonuses, taking the full value of the deal to €29m. This is a bargain fee for a player linked with an €85m move to the Premier League just a few months ago.

Adeyemi joins Barcelona

Romano reports that Adeyemi will sign a five-year contract once he touches down in Catalunya, having already agreed personal terms with Barcelona earlier this week.

This deal likely means that Rashford's chances of re-joining the LaLiga champions are dead and buried. There was still hope that Barcelona could make a fresh bid for him despite the signing of Gordon, but with Adeyemi now also joining, it is difficult to see a world in which Rashford returns.

Barcelona boss Hansi Flick, who handed Adeyemi his senior Germany debut and included him in his 2022 World Cup squad, was the driving force behind the deal. In terms of raw pace, the Blaugrana may now have the fastest frontline in world football with the 24-year-old and Gordon.

Dortmund will have mixed feelings about this deal. It was probably time for Adeyemi to move on after four years in which he failed to live up to his eminent potential - he hasn't shown much substance to his game besides his pace - but the finances of the deal will be disappointing.

The Bundesliga side have failed to make a profit on the €30m they paid RB Salzburg for the forward in 2022, despite the fact that they could have previously sold him for a significantly larger fee.

However, they failed to agree a new contract with Adeyemi and his agent, Jorge Mendes, who was reportedly demanding an excessive salary and a release clause, the latter of which Dortmund would have been willing to grant, albeit reluctantly.

The salary and a general feeling that Adeyemi was ogling a move ultimately made an agreement impossible, putting the club in a weak negotiating position. The Germany international only had a year left on his deal, which is why Barcelona were able to agree a bargain fee for him.
