Football news expert Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on several major transfer stories, including the latest on Karl Darlow, Bruno Guimaraes and Alejandro Garnacho.

Man Utd complete Karl Darlow signing

Manchester United have been active in the market already this summer, and they have now reached a full agreement on their latest signing, as per Romano in his latest YouTube video.

“Today, Man Utd completed another deal as they secured their new backup goalkeeper because Altay Bayindir is expected to leave the club,” he said.

“Andre Onana has already left to join Trabzonspor on loan without a buy option, but the agreement could still earn Man Utd around £1.5 million in bonuses. Now, Karl Darlow, the Wales international and former Leeds United goalkeeper, is joining Man Utd on a free transfer. It is a ‘here we go’, so there is a new face at the club.

“He will provide competition to Senne Lammens, who is obviously the clear first-choice goalkeeper for Michael Carrick. Karl Darlow has accepted all the contract terms and will become the new second-choice goalkeeper at Man Utd.

“He was already in contact with the club today to finalise the contract details. Tomorrow will be the time to sign the contract and complete the move. So Karl Darlow to Man Utd is a ‘here we go’.”

Andre Santos and Ederson latest

In addition to Darlow, Man Utd have also agreed to sign Andrey Santos and Ederson, with both deals expected to be announced shortly.

“Do not forget Andrey Santos, who completed the first part of his medical today at Man Utd,” Romano revealed. “We are now just waiting for the official announcement and club statement. Man Utd have signed their new midfielder in Andrey Santos, while they have also secured their new backup goalkeeper in Karl Darlow.

“I can tell you more about Ederson,” he added. “He has already completed the first part of his additional medical. There will be a second part and then, at any moment from now, everything will be sorted. I told you this week that we expected a final confirmation on the deal, and this week Man Utd will provide their verdict on the Ederson transfer.

“At the moment, the deal is on hold because everything has already been agreed verbally.

“Man Utd reached a verbal agreement with Ederson, and the first part of his medical was completed in the United States. The club wanted to carry out additional checks, which are now taking place in England. After that, Man Utd will communicate with Atalanta and the player's representatives to confirm whether they will proceed with the signing or whether the deal is off. So let us wait for the final verdict on Ederson.”

Alejandro Garnacho’s Chelsea future

Alejandro Garnacho has been heavily linked with a Chelsea exit after just one season and Romano has admitted that a transfer could be on the cards.

“Let me confirm that Alejandro Garnacho has a serious chance of leaving Chelsea during the summer transfer window.

“It is a similar situation to Andrey Santos. Chelsea are not actively trying to sell the player, so he is not out of the project at this stage. However, the understanding is that if a good proposal arrives on a permanent deal, Chelsea are ready to consider it.

“So, as of today, Chelsea's position is permanent transfer or nothing. They are starting to open the door to a possible exit for Alejandro Garnacho.

“Now we have to understand whether there will be permanent offers, or whether clubs will instead try with a loan including an option or obligation to buy. At the moment, Chelsea's position is very clear. Garnacho can only leave on a permanent transfer.

“So let us see what happens. The Garnacho situation is beginning to move. I expect developments around Alejandro Garnacho after just one year since he joined Chelsea from Man Utd. He could already be on the move again, so we will continue to follow the situation.”

Newcastle close to Johan Manzambi

Newcastle have prioritised player sales during the early weeks of the summer window, but they are now on the verge of signing Freiburg star Johan Manzambi.

Romano said: “Movements are already taking place behind the scenes at Newcastle United. They have obviously lost two important players in Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali, while also bringing in new signings.

“The next arrival is expected to be Manzambi, the midfielder from the Switzerland national team. If you have been following the World Cup, he has been one of the standout young talents, scoring goals, providing assists and performing at a very high level.

“I told you a few days ago that Newcastle were preparing an official bid to send to Freiburg. That offer was submitted today, and there is now an agreement in principle between Newcastle and Freiburg for the player.

“So everything has been agreed verbally. The clubs are now finalising the payment structure and the remaining contract details, but everything is moving in the right direction.

“Manzambi is expected to become a Newcastle player. The ‘here we go’ is coming soon because the deal is almost complete and could happen at any moment.”

Bruno Guimaraes to Arsenal

Bruno Guimaraes has informed Newcastle of his desire to join Arsenal and a deal is expected to move quickly if the Gunners are able to finalise a transfer fee.

“Then we have to follow the situation of Bruno Guimaraes. Many of you have been asking me whether it is true that there is already an agreement in principle on personal terms between Bruno Guimaraes and Arsenal,” Romano said.

“Guys, I have already told you in two or three videos that personal terms were never going to be a problem. Bruno Guimaraes is not going to Newcastle and saying, 'Let me go to Arsenal', without already knowing that an agreement with Arsenal is possible. So I do not think that is the story at all. It is absolutely obvious that Bruno Guimaraes would agree personal terms with Arsenal.

“The contract is not the problem. The salary is not the problem. The player's desire is to live in London. His desire is to work with Mikel Arteta. His desire is to play Champions League football. He wants to join Arsenal because of the ambition of the project and the opportunity to win trophies.

“So when you have this level of desire from the player, I do not think the deal is going to collapse because of the contract. The contract has always been ready. It has never been in doubt. Everything now depends on the clubs.

“It is up to Newcastle to decide whether they want to give the green light for his departure and under what conditions. Arsenal will try again. Arsenal will be back at the table. You can be sure this story will continue over the next few days.

“Newcastle now have the ball in their court. They have already raised significant money this summer through the sales of Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon, so it is their decision to make.”

Barcelona continue Karim Adeyemi talks

Finally, Romano confirmed that Barcelona are locked in advanced talks over a summer deal for Karim Adeyemi.

“I told you last night that Barcelona's opening offer of €20 million is not enough to convince Borussia Dortmund. They want more,” Romano admitted.

“But let me tell you one thing. Barcelona are not going to offer €40 million for a player who can become a free agent in January and sign with any club ahead of the summer of 2027.

“Adeyemi has made it very clear to Borussia Dortmund that he wants to join Barcelona. Personal terms with Barcelona have already been agreed and he has no intention of signing a new contract with Dortmund. That decision has already been made.

“So now it is up to Dortmund. Negotiations with Barcelona will continue, but Barca are not going to spend crazy money on this deal.

“There is still a feeling that the transfer can happen, but financially Barcelona are not going to offer the €40 million valuation that Dortmund had at the beginning of the transfer window. They are currently at €20 million, while Dortmund want more.

“Let us see whether Barcelona are prepared to increase their offer through further negotiations. What is certain is that the player has been very clear, and Barcelona have the player on their side."

Romano continued: “When you have the player pushing for the move with only one year remaining on his contract, it is very difficult to imagine him signing a new deal with the club. That is not going to happen.

“It is also very difficult to imagine Barcelona spending much more than €20 million, or perhaps €25 million, on a player they could eventually sign for free in six months before he joins in the summer of 2027.

“So let us see what happens. What is certain is that Adeyemi's decision is clear, and my feeling remains that this deal can happen. Negotiations between Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund are well underway for Karim Adeyemi to complete the move to Barcelona.”
