Fabrizio Romano Transfer News: Guimaraes to Arsenal fee, Chelsea agreement, Man Utd medical
Football news expert Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on several major transfer stories, including the latest on Bruno Guimaraes, Andrey Santos and Ederson.
Aurelien Tchouameni new contract
Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United in recent weeks, but he has now reached an agreement to sign a new contract at the Bernabeu instead.
That is according to Romano, who told his YouTube channel: “So, Aurelien Tchouaméni to Manchester United. There have been many stories, plenty of news, breaking reports and secret stories, but I always told you there were two problems.
“The first one was that Real Madrid were not opening the door. The second one, and this was not a small detail, was the player's salary.
“These two issues created serious problems for Man Utd's dream of signing Tchouameni because, as I have always told you, he was considered the perfect player.. He was the dream target in midfield, the ideal replacement for Casemiro and the perfect player to add quality, experience and an elite mentality to the midfield.
“One thing is a dream and another thing is reality in the transfer market. The reality was that the salary was too high, while Real Madrid never really opened the door to Man Utd. Real Madrid never told Man Utd, 'If you make this bid for this amount of money, we will sell the player.' That never happened.
“It was simply Man Utd's desire to try, but it quickly became very clear that the deal was impossible, both financially and because of Real Madrid's position.
“Now, Real Madrid have reached an agreement with Tchouameni and his representatives over a new five-year contract. It is a 'Here We Go'. Everything has been agreed between the parties. Real Madrid are now simply waiting to exchange the final documents and complete the signing of the new contract.
“Tchouameni will receive a significant salary increase at Real Madrid. Everything has been agreed.”
Romano continued: “Let me also mention Jose Mourinho. Behind the scenes, Mourinho was pushing to keep Tchouameni. He wants players with that profile. Fighters with a top mentality, physical players who can make a difference for the team.
“He never wanted Tchouameni to leave. When Mourinho gave that interview a few weeks ago, he made his position very clear. He said that people claimed he wanted certain players out because they had created problems, but his message was different.
“Mourinho explained that he did not want those players to leave. Instead, he wanted to keep them because they are passionate, competitive players who bring intensity to the squad. That is why Tchouameni is staying at Real Madrid and signing a new contract with the club.”
Bruno Guimaraes remains Arsenal's priority midfield target
Arsenal are set to submit a fresh bid for Bruno Guimaraes and, as revealed by FootballTransfers, the Brazil midfielder is eager to join Mikel Arteta’s side.
“Arsenal want Bruno Guimaraes, so let's go through every detail of the situation. The first point is what has happened so far. Newcastle United and Arsenal have been in contact regarding Bruno Guimarees.
“Arsenal's opening bid of £55 million was rejected by Newcastle. Then, last week, Arsenal informed Newcastle through the player's representatives that they would be prepared to increase their offer to £65 million.
“However, Newcastle continued to reject every approach. They said no to the £55 million bid and also rejected the suggestion of a £65 million offer.
“Now, what is happening from the player's side? My understanding is that Bruno Guimarees wants to join Arsenal. He has made it clear that his preference is to move to London and play for Arsenal. Personal terms would not be an issue.
“However, Bruno has handled the situation with complete respect towards Newcastle. Unlike other transfer situations we have seen in the past, he has not gone to the club demanding a move or threatening to create problems if he is not sold.
“If Newcastle reach an agreement with Arsenal, Bruno will be very happy to make the move. If they cannot reach an agreement, Bruno will continue to respect Newcastle's decision and remain fully professional.
“That is a very important detail because Bruno is not putting pressure on the club. He simply hopes the clubs can find an agreement, but if they cannot, he will not cause any issues.”
Romano added: “My understanding, from sources involved and close to the negotiations, is that a transfer fee of around £90 million would be the starting point for discussions.
“At this stage, Arsenal are not offering £90 million. That is why negotiations will be crucial. We have seen an official bid of £55 million and an indication that Arsenal could increase that to £65 million, but Newcastle's valuation is significantly higher.
“The question now is whether the two clubs can find a compromise somewhere between those figures. That depends on Newcastle because their priority is to keep the player. It also depends on Arsenal because they know they will have to improve both their official £55 million bid and the suggested £65 million proposal.
“A significantly improved offer will be required if Arsenal want to complete the deal. That is the current situation surrounding Bruno Guimaraes. Arsenal remain in the race, and there is another important detail to mention.
“Mikel Arteta is pushing very hard to bring Bruno Guimaraes to Arsenal. Arteta has admired the player for years, so this is not the first time Arsenal have been linked with him.
“The reason Arsenal continue to pursue Bruno is because Arteta is driving the interest. He believes Bruno is exactly the type of midfielder he wants in his squad.
“Now everything depends on negotiations between the clubs. Arsenal's £55 million bid was rejected. The suggested £65 million proposal is still not enough.
“Newcastle would be prepared to consider offers in the region of £90 million, while Arsenal are not currently willing to reach that figure. Somewhere between £65 million and £90 million there may be room to negotiate if both clubs decide they want to make the deal happen.”
Chelsea agree Andrey Santos sale
Chelsea are in the midst of a sizable overhaul under new boss Xabi Alonso and they have reached a full agreement to sell Andrey Santos to Man Utd.
“The next 24 hours will be important because Andrey Santos will undergo his medical before signing a five-year contract with the option of a further year,” Romano said.
“The deal is worth £48 million, with an additional £2 million in potential bonuses, and Andrey Santos is set to join Man Utd from Chelsea. The transfer is done.
“One important point I want to clarify concerns the player's representatives. The agents representing Andrey Santos are the same agency that represents Bruno Guimaraes.
“I have seen reports suggesting intermediaries are working on the Bruno Guimaraes deal, but that is not the case. Bruno is represented by Giuliano Bertolucci, Kia Joorabchian and Alexis Malavolta. They all work together as part of the same agency.
“So these are not separate intermediaries. It is the player's own representatives managing the negotiations, just as they did in completing Andrey Santos' move.
“The agency finalised the agreement with Man Utd for Andrey Santos and is now fully focused on Bruno Guimaraes.”
Ederson medical
Finally, Romano confirmed that Ederson will soon undergo a medical ahead of his summer move to Man Utd.
“Ederson is scheduled to undergo a medical this week,” the transfer expert said. “The medical will take place in the United Kingdom because Man Utd carried out the initial checks while the player was in the United States, but they now want their own medical staff in England to complete a full assessment.
“At the moment, the deal has still not been officially completed.
“So today I can tell you that Ederson to Manchester United is at the 'Here We Go' stage in the sense that an agreement has been reached between all parties. Everything has been agreed verbally and the player is undergoing the medical process.
“However, can I tell you today that Ederson to Man Utd is completely signed, sealed and finished? Not yet.
“We have to be careful because the medical examination in England is still to be completed. Only after that will Man Utd communicate their final decision to Atalanta and to the player.
“So we have to wait until every stage of the medical has been completed before considering the transfer officially closed.
“At the same time, Andrey Santos is expected to complete his medical within the next 24 hours, with Man Utd moving towards finalising that deal as well.”
