Chelsea Transfer News Today: Alonso makes Tchouameni request as priority target confirmed
FootballTransfers runs through the latest Chelsea transfer news, rumours and gossip, including updates on Aurelien Tchouameni and Maxence Lacroix.
Xabi Alonso wants Aurelien Tchouameni
New Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso has requested the signing of Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, as per a report from Spanish outlet Fichajes.
Alonso worked with the Frenchman during his short stint as Los Blancos head coach last season and he has reportedly asked the Chelsea board to bring him to Stamford Bridge this summer amid speculation that Enzo Fernandez will depart.
Tchouameni is reportedly regarded as an ideal midfield partner for Moises Caicedo, and Chelsea are considering an approach for the France star, who could cost €80 million.
Maxence Lacroix interest confirmed
Chelsea have identified Crystal Palace star Maxence Lacroix as one of their ‘main targets’ to strengthen their defence this summer.
The Blues are looking to adapt their transfer policy and bring in more experienced players this summer, having previously only targeted young and unproven talent from around the world.
According to The Athletic, Chelsea want a minimum of ‘two ready-made players’ with experience of playing in the top five European leagues, leading to the interest in Lacroix.
Morgan Rogers blow
Arsenal have reportedly reached an agreement in principle over contract terms Chelsea target Morgan Rogers as they look to bring him to north London this summer.
The England international has emerged as the Gunners’ top target for the summer and they are locked in talks over a deal, as confirmed by FootballTransfers.
We understand that Rogers is only interested in joining Arsenal or Bayern Munich before the end of the 2026 summer transfer window, with Chelsea therefore expected to miss out on his signature despite significant speculation linking them with a move for the ex-Middlesbrough star.
In fact, Nicolo Schira has now posted on X: “Agreement in principle between for a contract until 2031 Morgan Rogers and Arsenal, which are now ready to open talks with Aston Villa to sign him.”
John Terry takes aim
John Terry has taken aim at Chelsea for not considering him to become the club’s interim manager after Liam Rosenior was sacked during the season.
Rosenior left Stamford Bridge in April after just three months in charge and he was replaced by academy coach Calum McFarlane, who saw out the remainder of the season.
Terry, who also works with Chelsea’s academy, had previously admitted he was disappointed to have not been asked to work with the senior squad and responded to Piers Morgan’s comments suggesting the oversight had been ‘borderline offensive’.
“Now Piers, you’re 100% spot on,” Terry said on Piers Morgan Uncensored. “'I've never thought that I could be Chelsea manager, but when a manager leaves the football club and Chelsea are looking for an interim manager, there was no one in the building, the academy building or the first team building, that was more qualified than me in terms of their qualifications.
“More importantly, and above all of that, whether it was for one game or two games, there was no one more Chelsea than me. And again, touching on the supporters, giving the supporters what they wanted at that time.
“Now, did I think that I deserve the Chelsea manager job long-term? Absolutely not. Because Chelsea is way bigger than me. If I want to go into that, I need to go on my journey to then get the Chelsea job.”
Lucas Bergvall deal won’t happen
Chelsea have no plans to rekindle their interest in Lucas Bergvall, despite the fact he has handed in a transfer request at Tottenham Hotspur.
That is according to The Evening Standard, who report that while Chelsea were interested in signing Bergvall earlier this year, he will not be moving to Stamford Bridge before the end of the summer transfer window.
In addition, it has been confirmed that Chelsea also aren’t interested in either John Stones or Ethan Nwaneri.
A host of players set to leave
Chelsea are set to oversee a major squad overhaul after failing to qualify for Europe last season and The Athletic have confirmed the players who may depart.
It’s reported that Enzo Fernandez, Trevoh Chalobah, Marc Guiu, David Datro Fofana, Gabriel Slonina, Axel Disasi, Tyrique George and Filip Jorgensen could all be sold, while one of Liam Delap or Nicolas Jackson will depart permanently.
In addition, Caleb Wiley, Kendry Paez, Deivid Washington and Shumaira Mheuka are all set to leave on loan.
Brian Brobbey interest
Chelsea are among the clubs said to be taking interest in Sunderland star Brian Brobbey this summer after his impressive performances at the 2026 World Cup so far.
Brobbey joined Sunderland last summer for €20 million and scored seven goals in his debut season in the Premier League before heading to the World Cup with the Netherlands, where he netted twice against Sweden.
Having enhanced his reputation on the global stage, TEAMtalk claim that Sunderland are now facing a ‘growing fight’ to keep hold of Brobbey, with the likes of Juventus, Atletico Madrid and Stuttgart said to be ‘closely monitoring’ the 24-year-old’s progress.
However, Premier League teams are also believed to be weighing up possible approaches, with Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham and Aston Villa all named as interested parties.
