Arsenal's Christos Tzolis deal unlocked by 'strong offensive'
Arsenal have received a major boost in their pursuit of Club Brugge winger Christos Tzolis.
The Greece international has become a key target for the Gunners in their search for reinforcements on the left wing. Tzolis is coming off two incredibly impressive seasons in Belgium and looks poised to take the next step in his career this summer.
The 24-year-old is no stranger to the Premier League, having been signed by Norwich City in 2021. He failed to keep the Canaries in the top flight and generally struggled in England, so there will be added motivation and a sense of unfinished business for him should he return this summer.
It was only on loan at Fortuna Dusseldorf, then in 2. Bundesliga, where Tzolis really exploded and lived up to the potential he had shown as a youngster at PAOK in his native Greece.
After narrowly missing out on promotion to the Bundesliga, Dusseldorf made his loan from Norwich permanent before immediately selling him to Brugge for a profit. He has produced a whopping 43 goals and 45 assists in his two years in Belgium.
Arsenal get Tzolis boost
Arsenal are believed to be exploring a €40 million transfer for the forward, with Brugge willing to listen to offers in that ballpark. Tzolis is understood to be keen on the move.
Crucially, Tzolis is not seen as Arsenal's marquee signing for the wing, which is a role he would likely have struggled in anyway, according to analytics firm SciSports. Instead, he would be signed to provide quality depth in the attack.
Arsenal will continue their efforts to sign Aston Villa superstar Morgan Rogers regardless of the outcome of their Tzolis pursuit. The chances of this pursuit being successful look decent at present.
That is because Brugge have already found their preferred replacement for the Greek. According to Sky Germany, Augsburg attacker Mert Komur is being chased by the Belgian giants.
The 20-year-old is planning to leave Augsburg this summer, and the Bundesliga side are ready to sell at the right price. Brugge have launched a "strong offensive" for the Germany youth international because he is also fielding interest from numerous other suitors.
Besiktas are long-standing admirers and already attempted to sign him in January, while reigning Portuguese champions Porto are also said to be interested. Eintracht Frankfurt and RB Leipzig are monitoring the situation as well.
Brugge, however, look well-placed to win the race following their strong push, which could be a sign that Tzolis is indeed on his way to the Emirates.
